Although they officially don't debut till Sunday...

I was switching between Push Nevada on 12d and CSI on 58d... and the PQ on 34 is just awful... I've seen SD upconverts that look better...

Is it just the show?

P.S. BTW... who exactly are they saving their big gala "debut" for? Are we just supposed to not peek till then?

Possibly its the show.  It has had a lot of "solarizing" effects, I guess to show the Nevada heat.  Didn't watch last night.  I understand its been canceled.

Here is the "official" line (note: "full power", "Monday night football", and " Superbowl"):

WISN-TV will officially offer high
definition programming beginning Sunday, October 27; becoming Milwaukee's
first 24-hour, full power commercial digital television station.  The move
coincides with ABC's announcement that the most watched sporting events of
2003, including the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup and Monday
Night Football, will be broadcast in HDTV.

WISN-TV will be transmitting the digital signal on WISN-DT34, which is
actually Channel 34 on the UHF band.

I don't think they are telling the truth.

"becoming Milwaukee's first 24-hour, full power commercial digital television station. "

According to the FCC they will be running lower power than their licensed for.  So how can they claim to be full power?
(ERP):              833.  kW ERP Licensed
(ERP):              570.  kW ERP STA

Tom you are right about the picture quality.

I too noticed some artifacts - mostly in the backgrounds that were *supposed* to not be moving (walls...) Perhaps this is a "feature" of the upconvert from 720p to 1080i. I am commenting on MDs, and did not watch Push.

Anyway, I am very pleased WISN-DT34 has joined the ranks! And just in time for the next Packer game! (Any news if the game will be produced in HD or Digital of some sort?)

"Full Power" is an FCC term, meaning that if they are broadcasting at a power level above what the FCC considers a "low" power.  It does not mean they are at full licensed power.

The Monday Night game will just be an upconvert, however, people who have been watching in other markets are reporting a pretty good picture quality.

Not sure whether the upconvert will happen at the network or locally, but it will undoubtedly be better than Fox's analog.

It will be the best picture quality we'll see the Packers in till the Superbowl!

I dont know guys. I was watching My Wife and Kids (The one with one of the Wayans brother) and I thought it looked pretty damn good...as good as most other HD sit-coms. I specifically looked for any type of artifacting and didnt see anything.
I've already been telling people about the HD Superbowl at my house this year. I've already got like 30 people interested.

Hope some one can help me.  I live in Fox Point,  and Ican't get Channel 6 in what they claim is HD or what ever.  I can understand that because my RS DB antenna faces at the major antenna array that I can see from my terrace. BUT I can't recieve channel 12.  I have a zenith 1080 and it really pulls in 4-10-58 inHD upwards of 90%..
I have looked at 33-1 &33-2 and 34-1&34-2. What am I doing wrong?  Please help.

Well big Tony you should be able to receive WISN's digital on 34...just tune it in...they don't have PSIP data yet so a scan won't work. As far as Faux 6 goes their transmitter on 33 is extremely low power and they are transmitting from their studio tower (only 150') and if you don't have the antenna pointed at 57 and Brown Deer there is no way you will receive them.\

Greg, Thanks alot. Should that just channel 34 or 34-1

Gregg Lengling

If you just put in 34 it will find 34-1 all by itself.
