For those of us who are out of the TWC area and are stuck with Charter Cable, below is some of the information that they have provided:

"We began offering HDTV service in the Madison/Janesville/Beloit areas in September. In order to receive HDTV service, you must have a high definition television. We are offering free installation of HDTV programming with a 30-day risk free guarantee! If, for any reason, you are not satisfied with the service and wish to discontinue HDTV within 30 days of installation, you may cancel your service and there will be no charge to downgrade services.

What does the customer need to receive HDTV?

1. HDTV set (The HDTV set or monitor must have a YPbPr component input and must support 1080i HD signals, Customer can refer to the owner's manual to determine if it supports a 1080i and if an adapter is needed. Note even if the set is a plasma set it must be a HD Plasma set)

2. HD-capable digital receiver (Charter's new High-Definition 5100 DCT)

3. Component video (RGB) cables and audio cables to connect this equipment, which are included in the Installation Kit, which is provided as part of the free installation.

What are the costs?

Charter High Definition Serviceā„¢

(this service is optional but provides the customers much more HD programming on a regular basis)

Thank you for choosing Charter Communications."

Any comments from the Tech-heads or others already using Charter would be appreciated.
Thanks

Ron:

I had Charter's HD service installed a couple of months back, and it's been working as advartised. Not a whole lot of channels, but I ended up getting the service free until the end of the year due to my early adopter status. :) The dct is a nicer, more modern version of the DCT that Charter uses. with the same menus, but with component out, and much faster channel changes. Hopefully they'll add locals soon.
