From the messages appearing lately in here, it seems as thou many viewers are receiving WITI-DT OTA.  So far no such receivable signal of WITI-DT in Muskego. The best I can do in getting Fox is WFLD-DT OTA.

Not really John....just some freq. reception with the winds blowing the trees and antennas around the last couple days.  Things are still the same...however I'm privy to some news.

It seems Fox6 took delivery on the feedline for the DTV antenna....but don't hold your breath...the work is all done on the tower but the weather isn't conducive to installing the feedline and antenna.....I would give it a 90% shot that it won't be done til spring.

I understand they do not intend to paint the tower candy-cane style either.  Someting about using strobe lights instead because it's cheaper and the community didn't complain about the light pollution as loudly this time.  *shrug*  Just someting I heard from an engineer at school.

Why not?  WCGV-TV tower has used strobe lights from the day the tower was erected back in 1980.  If it hasn't been a problem, then WITI shouldn't have any trouble with using strobe lights.

The only places you hear about complaints about Nighttime strobes is out in the rural areas.  Light scatter is so prevalant in the Cities that you don't notice the strobes, whereas in the country it's very apparent.  If you look at a lot of the unpainted lit towers out in the country you'll see that they have dual-lighting systems.  Strobe by day and red flashing by night.  I retrofitted one of my towers about 10 years ago from Red's to strobes and it reduced my electrical bill for lighting by 90%.

Just to give you an idea....each of the flashing red beacons on a tower has 2-620 watt light bulbs.  Now count the number of beacons (2 or more on each level depending on tower shape) and multiple by 1240 watts.  A tower like channel 6's can use over 20kWh to light the entire stucture with the beacons and side marker lights.

Big money savings.....in addition now the tower doesn't have to be painted Aviation Orange and White every few years, and it's very expensive to paint a tower.

I can just imagine how much juice the Channel 6 tower used when they had the whole thing lit up.  It was cool though!!
