I am having problems with my dvd player and my dvi connection. I have the samsung hd 931 connected with my dvi-d dual link dvi cable I got from cables to go .com. whenever I watch movies there is a bright green outline of bright images. I connected the player using the component cables and the progressive scan and it worked fine,no green lines. I am wodering if it's the cable,I know I am suppose to use a dvi single link instead of dual link. is there anyone out there who would be willing to let me borrow their dvi cable for five minutes to see if it is my cable.I don't want to have to buy one. if it's not the cable I will have to return the unit, I really hope it's not the t.v
thanks:bang:

Maybe strange  convergence issues on that input?  I don't know if you are using a CRT display.

Good luck,

Is the progressive scan button (front of unit) off? If it's lit, DVI won't work properly. If you haven't already, try cycling through the output settings (red, green, blue for 480, 720 and 1080). Not sure what your display - Hitachi, right ? - might prefer.

Dave
I kinda thought that might happen ...

sorry guys ! my television is hitachi 57 uwx 20b. you are correct dave the dvi will not work when the progressive scan is activated. dvi wil only output 720p or 1080i I hook the dvd player up both ways using dvi and component and I can switch back and forth between the two, and when I switch to component 480p the green lines go away.
if it is a convergence issue in that input how can I do the convergeance on that input??? the manual tell how to do a  convergence but doesn't tell you how if you have to do it with each input. do I have to go into the service menu.
I think trying a new dvi first might help track down the problem.
thanks.
any input??

StarvingForHDTV

I would think you would do the convergence when viewing the source you want to adjust.  All I know is that with my RPTV if I'm watching a HD source I can only do HD convergence.  I have a Pioneer though.  It might not be convergence anyway.  I doubt if you should have to go into the service menu to do a convergence.

Good luck,

... for anyone out there with a DVI-D cable to loan.

G-Man, good idea to start the troubleshoot with the least expensive and easiest part to replace. Unfortunately, all I have to offer is a DVI-I dual, and I'm pretty sure the extra analog pins won't fit your Hitachi.

While you're waiting for someone (perhaps a TWC sub - hint, hint:) ) to respond, check the manufacture date on the Sammy. My limited experience with this player comes from trying to help a friend with this model back in spring. Came to find out that models produced prior to April had the original firmware, which had a few problems, including the DVI/HDCP output.

And, like Starving suggested, bring your convergence screen up while on the DVI input (if the Hitachi allows this - often fewer adjustments are allowed with DVI inputs). After doing a 64 point convergence on the SD input of my Mits, I brought the screen up on the RGBHD input and it was also in need of adjustment.

Hope you can come up with an easy fix,

Dave

thanks dave I'll look at the manufactures date and see.  would it be located on the box or the machine?? I'll try the convergeance question the dvi input is the same as input one. which also has a component input. If I am watching a movie using the dvi input and bring up the convergence screen would that get me to the dvi convergance or input one convergeance. I guess I will have to check and see.
thanks dave.  I'll try tonight and post tomorow.

G-Man

the date on the dvd player says 2003.07 so I guess that means july of 2003 it was manufactured.
is this correct??

I tried a different cable "mosnster" and it did the same thing , the green edges. I called samsung customer service they said I should try the firmware upgrade first the customer service guy said it was two upgrades one in march and the other in june. so they will send out the firmware upgrade today. dave did your firend get his problem solved with the firm ware upgrade??? did the convergeance with the dvi input and  it did the same thing. so hopefully the upgrade will solve my problem
thanks guys for your help.

He was really ticked off and near the end of the time allowed for a return, sent it back and bought a Bravo D1 instead.

Hope the firmware upgrade does it, nothing worse than having a new toy that doesn't work.

I haven't solved this problem yet but I am still trobleshooting. I got my hands on a brand new samsung hd 931 and hook it up to my set and it did the same thing, the green edges and all! o.k I tried changing the cable, different players, my last thing now is to check my player with a different t.v! if it doesn't do it with a different t.v  I know that the t.v needs to be serviced maybe the dvi input is bad.
o.k anyone with a hitachi I can bring my player over to see if it is my t.v. I have a reference dvd to use it is episode two of star wars when obie one goes to the planet to check on the army! really bright seen. only will take five minutes and will be greatly appreciated.  I haven't received the firmware update from samsung yet but I don't think that will help me.
does anyone have any suggestions on how I can check with a different t.v

Try it at the place where you bought the TV.  Unless it was online or it is no longer being sold.  Or schedule a service call stating that your DVI input is messed up.  I would guess the technician would be able to verify what or where the problem is.

Good luck,

finally got my problem fixed!!!!! well it turned out to be my t.v there was some incompadabilty(sp) issues. the tv tech came out to see it and stated I am getting some noise intereference with bright scenes. well he change some really tiny chips three to be exact on the dv circuit board and after two hours BAM it worked no more green lines. luckily the set was still under warranty. so if anyone has a hitachi set 57uwx 20b and has the samsund dvd player using the dvi input look for this.
thanks guys who responed with input.
