WISN branding 12

Did WISN just start branding their HD feed with the 12 this week?  I noticed it on tonight's episode of Less Than Perfect but don't remember seeing it before.

Suck!  Make it go away...

The 12 brand (I like that term) was on the Monday Night game along with the ABC brand.

I guess the "common" term for it is "bug" but I didn't hear that one until Nick at Nite was doing a "Be the Bug" contest where you could have your face in the bottom corner for some time.

But I guess either one is appropriate.  I think of it as grafitti more than antying and still don't understand why we need to be reminded what station we've tuned in to.  I mean... we know.  We changed the channel.  We flipped through the guide or punched in the number.  We see the station promos in the commercial breaks... Why deface the product that their viewers are there for?  Isn't the (ABC) branding enough?

If the execs are not convinced that their viewers do not appreciate the branding, the next step is banners, animated banner, and ticker tapes.

And it'll get worse.  You know how 4:3 (full screen) video leaves black space on the left and right of the video in the 16:9 broadcast?  It's just a matter of time before they push the video to one side and use the remaining space for continous advertising.  Is that what we want our "hi definition" and widescreen tv's to be used for?  I for one do not.
