Let's count the NFL misses on TWC ESPNHD

Not to be negative, but you are soooo right about all the advertising they do.  It's unbelievable the money they put into advertising a product as oppossed to hiring/training more competent employees.  A good number of the CSR's I've dealt with are just not ready for primetime.  It's amazing how the customer seems to know more about their product than many employees.

My latest experience with TWC was at the Greenfield payment center.  I was told by the Mayfair people I could go and get an HDTV box.  I went to Greenfield and was then told I had to have someone come and install it.  No big deal.  But then the individual behind the glass tells me that I must have a HDTV TV as opposed to just an HDTV Ready TV and would not set up an appointment.  It's just unbelievable!!  I thankfully called TWC later that day and talked to a competent individual who set me up.

As frustrated as I get I still prefer their product because of its flexibility.  I think digital cable is also nice product although the anolog signal is a bit rough at times.  I often ponder the switch to Dish but continue to hope that TWC will come around and in the long run I think (hope) will be the better choice.

At least we get to see Fridays Packer game in HD on CBS.  According to the CBS tv website the game will be broadcast in HDTV.

ARRGGGGHHHHH!

We have plans on Friday night. Figured it would just be crappy analog and was gonna videotape the game and watch it on Saturday morning.

News on the 'big' boards is that CBS' website is in error.

No HD, no DD5.1.

Stay tuned.

These plans are unbreakable! :(

Never thought I'd be so happy that a Packer game WON'T be on in HD.

I figured as much when Ken H. , mod from AVS, started taking all bets.
Thats okay, I can wait for regular season from CBS seeing as the ABC and ESPN games look really good PQ-wise...(sorry TWC people).

Drifting OT... [/b]
Hey, we're drifting way off topic here!
Lets get back to some real TW bashing...:bang:
The gawl of them --- not launching ESPN-HD!  So what if they never either mentioned or committed to it in the first place!  WE WANT IT! And we want it for free, if you please? :o

Clearly there will be a HD war similar to the recent wars over channel counts between satellite and cable.  IMO, the HD battle is just heating up.  In the long run I would bet on cable --- not because I work in the industry, but because they have the bandwidth needed to pull it off.

In closing, I have one other off-topic tidbit---

Total HDTV sales have now reached 6 million units, as reported in one of the most recent TV trade magazines.  Meanwhile, Nielsen Ratings reports on their web site that there are an estimated 102.2 million TV homes in the US.  Using those numbers, we now collectively represent a whopping 5.8% of the total market (assuming no one household has ever bought more than one HD set).  Clearly not a solid voting majority yet, but we will eventually get there.

For those of you who have to have ESPN-HD by mid September:
Avoid six weeks of frustration and start shopping for your satellite receiver now.  Just don't buy the top of the line receiver---IMO, it's resale won't be much in two years.

And only slightly astray from the original topic... what about the Fox Widescreen games that we'll miss because Chanel 6 is taking forever to either get a full power digital signal, OR negotiate carriage with TWC.

That's something else we'll want to keep track of.

Faux 6 is on TW 506 --- but they are leaving off-air customers hanging.  As I brought up earlier, we continue to suffer with a lack of a decent amount of programming.  It comes with what I still contend is the 'early adoption' syndrome.  Some may not believe it (or agree with me!), but HD is still very much in it's infancy --- regardless of the fact that some out there have had HD ready sets for years now.  Some of the blame has to go the FCC.  Lucky they want to auction off the VHF space occupied by TV stations, or we may not have even gotten this far!

Again I have to agree with Mhz here. I can say that DiscoverHD being released in July 31, 2004 is both ridiculous and wrong. Unless the satellite companies find a way to optimize bandwidth on their systems, they will hit a wall on what they can offer to the customers. Bet on the more channels they cut for HD, the more it will cost.

Please allow me to touch on the CSR knowledge issue. In the big picture, CSRs not only at TWC but at most public service companies (DirecTV and Dish too!) are as up to date as their marketing departments keep them. One step further, we all know of people who are not the brightest light in the room in all fields of employment. Does this excuse our lack of info? No. It simply offers an insight into how things work.

I would suggest that the same people who are raising their blood pressure because of a lack of a HD channel to watch football on, to go to satellite and get your NFL jones fixed.

I suggest TWC get their act together cause they will lose customers over this. People love football!

Kenshin

You are absolutely right. People love football. Sports sells. My point is that if you truly love football soooooo much then DirecTV is the way to go. The NFL Sunday Ticket is your path to watching all of your NFL games all at once. Am I not right? So people sit on here and moan that TWC is not offering HD channels fast enough. I'd say that the rate of implementation of channels coming through on both TWC systems and satellite is about normal.

Will TWC have the channels you are so desperately demanding? Yes. Will they be here yesterday like you want them? No. They will come when you, the customer ask for them.  I encourage all of you that want ESPN HD to fill out the comments/suggestion form on the TWC site if you want this title on your system. They are good at responding to those requests.
