No digital out sound on TWC box!?!?

Well, let me rephrase that:  I am only getting digital audio out of the HD channels.

This is  a pain because I have to switch my audio on my receiver over to the analog input.   It's not a big deal, but it adds another series of buttons to be pushed... which is tedious.

Does the Pioneer box offer audio out of the digital output on non-HD channels?

Mike Sura

no, the Pioneer audio switches just like the SA box. The new Pace box that TW is going to start using (when??) sends all the audio out both the analog and digital outputs.

The DVR from TWC has an added advantage: you can use your digital connections-no analogue required-for sound on the lower channels. If you wait a couple of seconds for the show to appear on screen, then-use the back-play button on the DVR:surprise! You have sound without hooking up extra cables from the box and having to use separate connections for the analogue channels 1-99 on your sound receiver as a switcher. ;)

Hope this helps anyone who has the HAS the DVR's like I do or maybe is thinking about getting one without all the setup costs of a TIVO.

When I had the SA box I had to switch my receiver manually from digital to analog and vise-versa. Now with the Pioneer box my receiver switches automatically. My input is set to auto and switches based on what signal it receives. It didn't work that way with the SA box. Can't really explain why.

My pioneer box I only have set to pipe out the digital output.  I did not hook up the analog.  There must be an analog to digital conversion inside the box - or else TW does it someplace.

Thanks for the "input" guys. (haha... I crack myself up!)

Interesting, are you watching your cable strictly through the component "HD" output?

The Law

Yes, component (y'know...red, blue, green) video out to the tv and digital sound out to the receiver.

I understand that part, TL... the reason I asked is I watch my non-HD material through the composite inputs.  I hate the way 4:3 material through my component stretches on my Toshiba.

So, if I want to watch good ol' analog, I have to switch inputs on my set as well as inputs on the audio.  It's become a pretty rigorous thumb excercize... especially since I haven't gotten off my arse to buy a universal remote. :)

If only the SA box would "upconvert" the audio and feed it all out of the digital I wouldn't have to worry about .. that would save me some $$ on carpal tunnel treatments.

I'll have to look into if my receiver can auto-detect between analog and digital inputs.
