July is almost over:confused:

gparris

July IS almost over...and they said summer. Our inside TWC  guy says he heard July/August. So we will probably get it in August(maybe). The feedback I got from TWC's answerback section in their website for "Customer Care" told me recently that there was no definite time, that they were at the mercy of the FCC and just because Green Bay had it,  southeastern Wisconsin (Milwaukee) is another area and not the same market.
I do not understand what the FCC has to do with getting the Discovery HD Theater or what the problem is...:(

Maybe all of us TWC HD box users should email them at that website all at once and see if they cough up an answer we can stomach...:bang:

Directv must be enjoying this right about now...!

Shirow

Yeah, sorry, I haven't been able to hear anything else yet.

gparris

It's not your fault, you work in a different area...but your input is always appreciated. :)

I have friends and family in San Diego and San Antonio and they just got the Discovery HD channel. A short time ago, San Diego did not even have any HD channels.

So my thoughts are that the Milwaukee area is having to be last on the list and might make through summer without any additional HD channels added. It's not like TWC isn't getting HD channels added anywhere else.

Just not here.:bang:

Shirow

I'll dig around, I'm as anxious as you are. What I'd REALLY like is to see all the programs broadcast on HD channels really be in HD... but that's probably more of a pipedream than this :)

gparris

Dig around as much as possible. I cannot believe the CSR's are not reading their emails  or could be so lazy. No one knows ANYTHING!

All I wish for is what TWC has been saying it will offer-Discovery HD Theater, so that is all anyone could ask for.:(

As for the ESPN, the new Bravo HD+ channel, GOOD LUCK!!!

But please check again and thanks-in advance,  from all us TWC HD box users!!!

Hello.

At this time there isn't a timeframe other than Fall 2003 for the release of additional HDTV channels on the TWC lineup.

The current HDTV channels we have are feeds that TWC has are from feeds coming from the stations offering the channels. I agree that there is an improvement, but definitely not something you come to expect in HDTV. PBS has by far the best picture and that is mainly because they filmed their HD content with HD equipment and the result is beautiful, if not a bit boring. The superbowl was filmed with HD equipment and it was indeed a beautiful pic. However, the day to day broadcasts of the locals are on the level of a standard digital channel.

As for TWC bringing in newer HD channels, it really isn't a matter of us just saying, "Hey that's a neat channel and it will make money, let's get it!" We have to go to the company offering it, ask how much it will cost us to offer it, then weigh the cost of offering it vs the return from people ordering that level of cable for the channel. Granted this is a very simplified process, but I'm just trying to give you an idea.

Bottom line, there is more channels coming to TWC for HDTV content. Is there a launch date? No. Why? Well there is time needed to wait for the powers that be to sign the appropriate docuements, for TWC to bring the feed in and the technicians to test it, and finally the release.

If you wanted my best guess, I'd say look around October-November.

Well this is definetely discouraging news! I thought cable was trying to become a leader in HDTV but this proves me wrong. Guess the dishes are the way to go if you want more HDTV content.
 :bang:

Kenshin

All I can say is that it seems that you've already made your mind up no matter if it was going to show up in August or in October. Hope you enjoy the dish. :)

Are you trying to say I'll see something new in August??

Shirow

I think he was trying to say that you had formed an opinion on TWC, and whether or not the HD channels surfaced in August or October, your opinion wouldn't have changed.

But I could be wrong :p

Kenshin

There are new channels coming in August, but those aren't really HDTV channels.

TWC has channels that Dish and DirectTV don't. Dish and DirectTV have channels that TWC don't. Dish and DirectTV go out in nasty weather. TWC has outages from time to time on channels.

The debate between cable and satellite are about the same as the PC vs Mac wars, etc. People are always prejudiced based off of preferrence, lack of understanding, personal experience, or simply just because. Myself included. Just as people hated the way TWC has treated them, I wasn't too pleased with DirecTV when I lived in Hawaii. So I got cable when I moved here. Am I prejudiced? Yes I work for them. I wish we had a lot of stuff that DirecTV has like NFL Sunday Ticket, but what can you do huh?

..and yes, shirow is right, that was what I had meant.

gb4fan92

What I'm saying is I'm really frustrated with all the hype going on lately about new HD channels coming and none have yet to appear on TWC.  Hell the first page of this website says Discovery HD is coming this summer and now it sounds like thats not true. (and don't even get me started about ESPNHD - though I only want it for the football) No my mind isn't made up about switching to the dish. I just want some more HD!!!:bang: :bang: :bang:

Shirow

Yeah, I know the feeling :) At least it's in the pipeline though.

gparris

Thankyou Kenshin for your assistance.

TWC said summer, not October. Meteorologically speaking, summer is June, July and August and seasonally speaking it ends in late September. This does  not  translate to an October timeframe, which is fall.

TWC's website says Discovery HD Theater in summer. Not fall.

We know it was a guess on your part and we thank you for explaining the contracts and etc. to us....but it still does not explain how Green Bay gets an HD channel like Discovery over a more populus area like Milwaukee where more HD subscribers would likely be and the cost-effectiveness would appear to be.

I used to have BOTH Directv and TWC HD availability when I lived in a house, and will again, for the best of both worlds. Thank you.
