Event to screen 40 films

LOS ANGELES, Apr. 18, 2003 -- Now in its fourth year, HDFEST "the world's only high-definition film festival," continues to break new ground. Today HDFEST announced its upcoming Los Angeles event which will take place June 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th at the 350-seat high-definition theatre at the Los Angeles Film School, 6363 Sunset Boulevard. The Los Angeles film school is also a sponsor of the event.

HDFEST will be screening a variety of films, 40 in total, which were all created using high-definition technology. The HDFEST Los Angeles event is part of the HDFEST 2002-2003 World Tour which has already visited London and Paris in 2002, and will visit New York and Toronto in 2003. Admission to the Los Angeles event is free to the public with advance registration. Registration information and forms can be found at //www.hdfest.com.

HDFEST was founded to promote the usage of high-definition technology among filmmakers. In 2000, HDFEST became the only high-definition film festival in the world, and hosted the first high-definition expo which showcased newly emerging high-definition technology. Further, HDFEST holds the unique distinction of screening HD television programs including "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "Lexx," "Gene Roddenberry's: Earth Final Conflict" many for the first time in high-definition before audiences and creators.

With its events in London and Paris last year, HDFEST launched the first high-definition film festivals ever to take place in Europe. Festival director Issac Alexander says "The Los Angeles 2003 HDFEST event marks a real turning point in the history of filmmaking, the fact that the festival is screening 40 HD films this year really speaks to the great variety of high-definition films being produced in past year alone."

The HDFEST 2003 Los Angeles event is the largest high-definition event ever to take place in the Los Angeles area. During the four-day festival, the 40 different high-definition films which will screen include feature films, shorts, commercials, music videos, and documentaries. All screenings will be projected at HD resolution, producing images of the extremely vibrant picture quality.

The festival will also include panel discussions which discuss the merits of high-definition filmmaking and filmmaker's experiences with the medium. Festival high-definition awards including "Best High-Definition Feature," "Best High-Definition Cinematography," "Best High-Definition Short" among others will be determined at the event. A prestigious panel of judges will be determining the winners of these awards.

Films which have been accepted to the HDFEST Los Angeles 2003 event originate from a variety of countries including Japan, Korea, US, Russia, Germany, France, Canada, and England. It will be the first time many of these films will be screened in the United States. Most films which will be screened at the event are also "high-definition world premieres," in other words, these films have never been screened before in their originating high-definition format. Attendance to the event is free of charge with registration, information on attending HDFEST Los Angeles 2003 can be found at //www.hdfest.com or by calling 773-782-9790.
