Hookup Help??

Instead of buying a traditional HDTV I purchased an Infocus 340b HDTV Compatible DLP Projector.  Now that I am going digital I am unsure how to hook it up??

It only has input for S-Video, Composite Video (Yellow), and DVI-I.  It also came with a DVI-I to 15-pin VGA cable.  It looks like there are HD Converters out there with DVI-I output although I dont think the Time Warner AS3100 has it.  My receiver is a Bose Lifestyle 12 system with only Pro-logic at this point.  I will be upgrading to the Lifestyle 12 series II for DD5.1 soon.

The projector also only works on 1080i - Im wondering how big of a problem that is...

Can someone help a Rookie out?

Thanks!

Yes you will need to feed it through the DVI input as you don't have component inputs available...but that shouldn't be a problem unless you want to watch DVD's in high quality from a Progressive Scan play that doesn't have DVI output (not sure how many do or if any do...sorta not up on that).  However seeing as you display is only capable of 1080i make sure whatever source you feed through the DVI whether it is 480p, 480i, 720p that your source can upconvert to 1080i and then you should have no problems.  (and now I'm going to do a little web searching and see what DVD players are available with DVI).

Good luck and welcome to our newest member.

I went and looked at the manufacturers website for your projector and it says it is capable of scaling up to handle 720p and 1080i HDTV formats.  What is interesting is I don't see DVI input so I wonder if the model you have is something I can't find on the net.

Thanks - man youre quick?  Now will I need to make sure I have a converter with a DVI output?  And any ideas where to get a 50ft DVI cable to run from the suspended projector to the converter?  I have a feeling thats going to be pricey...

Are you sure you have DVI input or is it VGA if so this cable is $35.16 at this site.  It's a DVI to VGA cable.

"The CableWizard system connects everything easily. If you use USB and Windows 98, you can even hot-plug your mouse. Plus, it uses the M1-DA connector for DVI digital, analog and USB connectivity, making it fully compatible with future digital technology."

I'm unclear what this is?  One of the optional accessories is a VGA cable.  It appears you need to convert from this connection to VGA and then to component to connect to most STBs.  The issue of the signal being in RGB also may be an issue. My projector's VGA input is only RGB.  The 2 component inputs can be selected for RGB or YPbPr sources.  The TW 3100HD is only component and YPbPr.  The older 2000HD box can be switched to RGB.  Hopefully this projector can switch between these formats.

Cables can be a huge issue.  I have more money in cables than a sane person would have in their entire TV setup.
