Multipath is a signal that arrives at your antenna having traveled more than one path due to reflections.  Having traveled different paths, then if strong enough and if the total lengths of the paths differ by a few feet (I forget how many), the reflected signals arrive late enough to confuse the tuner.

You can see the same effect with an analog signal as a "ghost" image shifted to the right from the true signal.  Often the most visible ghost image is the blanking interval, which shows up as a vertical bar that's pretty wide.
