Finally decided on an RPTV. I am a new MITS WS 65-711 owner

I want to thank everyone who has helped by providing opinions and specific advice on selecting an RPTV. It came down to HIT 65xwx20b or the MITS 65-711 Diamond. I chose the MIT's and here is why?

(1)PQ: MIT's for HD was superb and this was in Torch mode. SD was so-so but I hope with ISF cal after burn in the HD And SD will be taken to the next level.

(2)Reputation:I believe MITS only makes RPTV's. SONY/TOSH/PAN make direct view also. I feel MITS R/D is dedicated to making the best most cost effective RPTV, rather than being involved in multiple television platforms and producing a mediocre product.

(3)Support: Introducing addons or improvements,  minimizing obsolesence through products such as the promise module.

(4)Minimal degradation of PQ over the lifespan of the unit.

(5)Strong MIT's brotherhood at this forum and other sites which provides for exchage of info.

(6)You can fix red push in the service Menu

(7)The HIT converts native 480p to 540p. IMHO this was done to cut costs and not to improve PQ.

Thanks again to everyone for their assistance. I am happy to be part of the HD family. The bad part is the set won't be installed until late april or early May when the new house is ready. All the wiring is in place, just need to add my components and TV. Now looking for a DirectTV/OTA STB

Hope you like the set. I have a 48" Mits and l am very happy with it. Have to remember that is for HDTV , regular 4:3 digital and analog are not good. Analog signal is designed for a 19" picture, not 65".  To avoid burn in from 4:3 mode. I never watch it in 4:3 mode.  I always stretch the picture. Even the gray bars will cause a line where they meet the picture. That is the only problem I see with these wide screens.  I did find that the analog or digital channels when in strech mode looked a lot better by sitting a few feet off direct center.  The picture does not look as stretched or fuzzy.  HD picture is absolutely unbelievable.  NO matter where I sit. Sporting events are like viewing thru a luxury box window. Here in Milwaukee we are lucky, Time Warner  is  offering more locally than they do any where else in the country.

Welcome to the Mits family! You will more than pleased with this set, after two years I love mine still, it's like a beloved child.
Hopefully ypu can burn in (age) the tubes enough before Craig Miller comes to Milwaukee to do his Milwaukee Calibration Tour...(see thread regarding this) it will make a good TV absolutely stunning.
Again, welcome and enjoy!

Matt

Thanks for the encouragement. I am very excited to get it in the house. The HT crew is putting in all the inwall speakers Monday. So we are making progress. The TV will go in last late April or early May. Be patient i will be asking more questions than answering questions on this forum. I plan on being a regular contributor to this forum especially when I can comment on my actual system when it is up and running.

Congratulations, Dan. Happy to hear that you're on the way to HD happiness:)  Keep us posted on the progress - both during construction and when you finally get to enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Dave
I kinda thought that might happen ...

Dan, you'll love the set.  I have had the Mits 65511 in and running for a week now and chose it for most of the same reasons you cite.  I believe it's the same as yours except for the outside finish.  I'm building it in, and so went for the cheaper model.  FYI, I have the primary seating at 11 feet and the HD picture is everything I hoped it would be.  Also, if you're purchasing cables, the only one included with my set was a coax digital audio cable.

The Mits WS-65511 is NOT the same as the 711. Yes, it is 65", has the Firewire and HD tuner, but that is it. The 711 has this also- but INCLUDES the following: True Focus lenses, Anti-glare Diamond Shield, Quadfield Focus- and that" fancy cabinet".
I could not afford the $5499 for the set and instead got my 511 for $3324 on sale. The protective screen was not inserted in the set when it was delivered-a Mits quark - all other sets made that I know of today from SONY, Pioneer and Hitachi had it built in and I wish that it was since mine  was badly chipped, the second (replacement) scratched. My final one was good and accidentally, a Diamond Shield. The shield was a final attempt to make me happy with my set and I must say that the Anti-glare screen is a great one. The older 60" Mits I had was very hard to watch with any kind of light in the room or adjacent room and now I can do almost anything except direct sunlight and it is still watchable!
You still bought a great set, not as good as the 711,  but a great set.
If you have any questions at all about connections, I have inputted the TWC HD box, the Sat HDbox, TIVO box and the progressive-scan DVD player all at once with success. Let me know it you have any concerns about maximizing the use of your new set. I think I reached the limit and it's great!

cgardnl

Yeah, I oversimplified when I said it was virtually the same set.  Mine has a Diamond Shield, but it's definitely not anti-glare, although I have it in the basement, so ambient light is not a problem.

I'm on my second set, but only because the pair that delivered the first one couldn't figure out how to separate the top from the bottom to get it down the stairs.

All I have going into it are OTA antenna, TWC analog cable, a DVD player and a Playstation 2, and all is working okay.  Now, if I can just get SACDs to play through the Denon receiver...

Matt Heebner

Whats the problem with SACD's ? I don't want to sound like a jackass or anything, but you are using the 5.1 channel analog outputs to your receivers 6 channel 5.1 inputs right?. SACD won't work with a digital connection.

Matt

Matt, it looks as if I need yet another set of cables.  Nowhere in the docs that I could find did it say that SACDs won't work with the digital output.  Perhaps if I'd thought about it a little more I would have figured it out.  I just found the sample SACDs included with the DVD player paperwork today and when I tried them I got silence.  I had thought I could get away with only a digital optical audio connection to the receiver.

Thanks for the tip (no jackass factor on your part here).

Dan

I decided to upgrade my Mits 65-711 to a Mits 65-712. The primary reason is the Lenticular pitch of the screen was .52mm rather than the .76mm of the 711. This unit was only available though certain Mits dealers. I think this is the unit that will replace the 711 next year. BTW, not that it is that big of a deal the weight is about 100 lbs. lighter than the 711 because it is made of composite materials  which are lighter than the traditional material. The form factor is almost identical. I will nt get the unit installed until early May when the house is done. The inwall front and rear sorrounds are in. The wiring is all in place. Move in is 5/7/03. The anticipation of reducing analog veiwing is killing me!!!!:D
