Just picked up a high def box from TWC - hooked it up to my Hi Def TV (Samsung 17 inch LCD TV)...

All the channels show up EXCEPT the high def channels - am getting no picture, just sound (and the program banner on the bottom)...

Anybody have an ideas of what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!

Gregg Lengling

Are you hooked thru the component outputs (3 lead assy) from the box...sounds likeyou are connected instead using a single composite video cable.

Gregg,

I am hooked as follows:

TWC coax cable into the converter box, coax from converter box to TV.

3 (Pr, Pb, Y) from converter box to TV.

Audio L/R from converter box to TV.

I just can't get the Hidef picture from the box.  I have the digital service, and the right box.  Is there a setting in the TV itself that I'm missing???

I had things hooked up OK - but when switching to the digital channels, I must select the input - a button (TV/Video) on the remote cycles through Video, TV (Std), and DTV...

Am watching the PBS station now - the picture is incredible - I love it!

Having the same trouble.  Picked up a TWC converter box today SA 3100 HD and a Checkmate lll Model RT-U43C Remote.  Can't seem to get anything on Channels 504-512.  No audio either.  Anybody help?

Gregg Lengling

Give us the layout of your cableing to your display and receiver and we'll go from there.  Make sure you have the component cables hooked up to your display and that input is turned on.  Make sure you have the digital cable link from the box to your sound system and that input is on.

Then get back to us.

I have TWC coax going into the back of the box.  I have coax out to TV.  I have component video cable out from box to input 6 on TV.  "Audio out" from box to "audio in" on input 6. That's about it.  I get all basic cable channels through input 6 but nothing on channels 504-512.

Gregg Lengling

I don't know what your input #6 is...or what set you have.  Are you sure when you are on the HD channels that you have input 6 selected then.  If you are selecting the input using the coaxial connection there will be nothing.  You need to select input 6 on your system.

I have a Sony KP-51HW40 HDTV Projection TV.  Inputs 5 & 6 are for component video.  DVD is hooked up to 5, Cable Box to 6.  When I choose input 6 and turn on the cable box, I get TWC channel 2 program guide.  As I scroll up the few basic channels, they all come in (although the picture is typical TWC fuzzy) and I have sound.  When I punch in channel 504, 510, etc on the cable remote I get a little info box in the lower left corner that says WTMJHD - NBC or WMVSHD - PBS.  This info leaves after a few seconds and I'm left with black screens with no picture or audio.

Sounds like you are doing it right...sounds like you may have a bod box.....time to call TWC and have them come out.

Yeah, I just got off the phone with them and they tried everything they knew how (after admitting they really have no idea about HD hookups) and scheduled an appointment for Thursday.  Yippee.  TWC strikes again.

On my Mits it had a couple of inputs for component cable, one is for HD and the other for a DVD player or something. I have it plugged in to the HD set of inputs. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Thought I might try to eliminate a few of the splitters between the cable coming into the house and my setup and VIOLA!  Too late to see anything execpt PBS right now, but WOW!  I think I'm gonna cry...

Anyway, is there some kind of signal booster I could get or should I replace some of the 20 year old coax in the house leading to my setup?

mhz40

As I mentioned in an earlier post, all of the HD channels are carried on very high frequencies on the RF lineup.  Long drops & incorrect splitter types are these channels nemesis.  If you have a splitter in the house with 600MHz passband, the HD carriers can be severely attenuated.
You need 1GHz passives & amplifiers to be sure that the entire spectrum gets to the back of the set tops.  In addition, amps should be 2-way capable, amplifying 5-50 MHz in the reverse (upstream) direction.  Radio shack gear should be avoided.
Additionally, the HD component outputs should be used only for HD viewing.  I hate to admit this, but the truth is that 3100HD's rendering of SD programming on the HD component output is not 'flattering'.  Use the Y/C or composite video output for SD.
