I've been able to pick up the Discovery HD channel in testing mode on my 4dtv. Fantastic picture quality and sound. So far they have been running animal-travelogs most recently tonight on Willoughbys in Africa. Surprisingly, they are half way intersting. When this goes live on DirecTV its worth a look.

IF it goes live on DirecTv that is. They have not even hinted at this, and from what I've heard are not interested in putting out another HD channel. Showtime was their HD channel this year. DTV would have to free up bandwidth for this. Maybe 110 possibility. Interesting to see what will happen.

How did you get to see Discovery HD on you HD set again? ("4dtv" Huh?)
Hell will freeze over when Directv adds another HD channel: you'd think they were the cable they hate so much....

Discovery HD is in regular mode now and I see the Dish TV has picked them up. Shows are interesting with a lot of Japanese produced HD ala nature shows. And what is really strange is that Best Buy ads are in HD. Yes, the same store that couldn't show a HD picture in house actually has shot their commercials in HD. Now if one of the locals who have not intention of running HD could run this, it would be a major selling point.

Dish Network is showing a preview of Discovery Channel HD Theater on the channel that was previously their HD demo loop.  It just started running Monday and will be running until the end of the month and then will be available as a subscription starting July 1.  Check here http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/programming/discHD/index.shtml  for more information.

I work part time at Colders-Oak Creek and we are showing it on a few of our tvs.  I think it looked better than the demo loop.

I noticed that for $7.99 a month you get it as a premium upgrade...mmmm...maybe that is why DIRECTV won't offer it as as a free addition (like HDNET) as most subscribers get it in SD included in their package pricing already. The only reason I can figure out why it is so high per month is either that the Discovery Channel is charging Dish Network a premium for it (even though there are timed commercials in HD) or Dish Network is seeing if anyone will cough up the money, then reduce it as part of a package, etc. I will hope that DIRECTV decides to add it as a standard since they made us all go out and get that 3rd LNB for Showtime HD - so let's use it for more than just that one channel, guys. Thanks for the info-keep on checking for us and I will send DIRECTV a note even though I'll probably get their std form email back like usual...proriety info etc etc.!

So you DirecTV viewers know, I posted this info about a free Sat "C" kit over in the equipment section. Take a look. http://www.milwaukeehdtv.org/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000026.html
