Sorry about you non-Mits owners. I saw that Eliab is going out on a tour starting soon and wants to be in this area around April, but there was no link set up for information. However he says he only needs three people to consider it worthwhile.. you have two right there.. give him an email.

As for you GJC, he does I believe offer a slightly reduced set of calibrations although he prefers to do "the big one". You can email him at mghometheater@earthlink.net and ask him if there is anything you guys can work out. All I ask is that you make sure to tell him that it would be a part of the Milwaukee area tour that Eric Borgh is currently trying to set up.

We now have five guys from the board: dheiner, Greg O, Matt H (tune up), Mark S, and myself. Possibly Gary depending on if him and Craig can work out a smaller package, which would make it 6. There are also the two guys from Chicago. I will email this info to Craig and see what he says.

Pat,

In regards to the velvet, all I need to do is walk into any fabric store and tell them I need high quality long fiber black velvet and they'll know what I'm talking about?  I'm scared.  I've never been in one of these places. :o

BTW, do you have a link to the HTSpot discussion on this subject?

TIA,  John

Do you think Cedar Grove would count as Milwaukee (about 40mi north of the city)?  I'd like to see what I was missing.

Pat

Veyj,

Yup, that's it.  Do not be afraid, just tell 'em you're making an evening gown to wear to the ball.

It's going to cost you over $50.  I paid nearly a hundred, but bought too much.

Sorry, no link.  I'm not a paying member, and they've restricted much of the site to pay'ers, so I don't go there much any more.  I'd try a search on "sheen" and see where it might lead -- it was over two years ago.

jrlenz - Iw ill certainly ask. It is looking like you and a guy on the IL/WI border would be the farthest so far. The Chicago guys might be sent over to a Chicago coordinator. Still waiting to hear back from Craig again.

Edit - Pat, a question I have is the fire proofing of that cloth. It seems that Duvetyne is a compromise between the blackest non-reflective black, and the fact that it is fireproof. What are your thoughts on this?

Pat

Not sure about this, but I think cloth intended for clothing is required to be fire resistent.  In any case, its not very hot in there, and I have no concerns in my own case.

I also imagine, with no evidence, that Duvetyne would have more fire safety concerns, because its intended use is for drapery (conducive to fire) in public spaces (legal and regulatory issues).  In the lining of the cabinets, it doesn't really drape all that much, and its not in public space.

So then it would be safe to light some candles when wearing this gown?  :D

borghe

I just asked because this site has it listed as fire-proofed.

I'm in for CraigM. My 46809 has a ton of spots that need to be corrected. Plus, I've got some overscan on the left side.

Ok, it looks like the Milwaukee stop in the CraigM tour is definite. We will keep this thread up to attract anyone else who is interested. As time gets closer I will PM those interested so we can get contact information to Craig. We still have 5 or six months to go, but that should give most of us the time to fundraise the $750. Looks like it's a $50 cover to enjoy the big game this Sunday. :D

Well, more good news. I asked Craig if their was a "limit" of calibrations he wanted to stay within and the good news is that he said keep them coming. So anyone that is reading this thread wondering if it is too late, it's not. I don't know when the cutoff is but it's probably not going to be for a few months yet. So get those requests posted!

I Suppose Oshkosh is too far North Huh?

I think I am moving there in May.

To those that have paid big bucks to have your set cal'd.  Did you really notice a big difference, or was it a perceived difference much like the audiophiles who claim they can hear a difference with different wires to their speakers? I personally think the wire thing is all in peoples heads.   Is it really worth hundreds of dollars to get that little extra, if there is one, out of the picture?  It kind of sounds like the arguments I see at car forums when guys argue about which wax is more brilliant.  I am new to this HDTV stuf so please enlighten me before I lighten my wallet.
Thanks

dheiner

Unfortunately, due to unforseen circumstances, I must withdraw from this calibration tour.  I hope this does not impact the rest of you, however, it is unavoidable.:(

Being a new 65511 owner, I would be a candidate for a calibration stop on the tour; however, I share Typhoon's concerns about the price-performance payback.

Can anyone who has had this done offer any testimony as to just how much better it can get?

Also, (and these might be questions for the calibrator) how long does it last?  What "undoes" the calibration?  What if I move my set the day after he leaves?

If anyone can provide any insight, it would be very helpful.
