Acquisition of Madison TV station completed

ACME Communications Inc. has completed its purchase of Madison WB affiliate WBUW-TV for $5.6 million in cash, the company said Thursday.

WBUW was formerly the Madison area UPN affiliate WHPN-TV. The station switched call letters and network affiliation after ACME agreed to acquire the company through a bankruptcy court auction earlier this year.

Through a local marketing agreement, ACME began management of the station April 1, 2002. Santa Ana, Calif.-based ACME owns and operates 11 WB-affiliated television stations, including WIWB-TV serving the Green Bay and Appleton area.
