Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Re: Ch 38 OTA?
Monday Dec 23, 2019, 07:53:35 AM
After all the digital channels moved earlier and I had to rescan, my Tivo detected 38-1 through 38-7, however, the channels don't come in. Are they still broadcasting? Using the signal meter I get 0% on 38-1, WTSJ-LD is what it is listed as.

I read somewhere that they were broadcasting from the PBS tower. If I tune to 10-1 I get a signal with a strength of 48.   Maybe the direction of my antenna needs to be tweaked a bit to get this lower power channel. Either that, or it isn't strong enough to reach 53022.

I'm not sure if this link will work, but it shows the distance for WTSJ as 0.0miles....

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / WISN has a new sub channel 12-2
Wednesday Aug 06, 2014, 10:23:19 PM
Well, Movies! has started on 12-2, so what did 49-3 switch to you ask...?  Nothing new yet, it is showing 'this' which was already on 58-3

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / WISN has a new sub channel 12-2

From Germantown I can't receive any of the 49-x channels unless the weather is just perfect, but every other channel seems to come in perfectly, so if Movies! Actually moves to 12-2 ill be able to watch it, but I'm not into the 1950's movies. Oh well...

Good catch mrschimpf, the schedule is a match for 49-3
As for Grit and Escape networks, I would think that both would launch in Milwaukee from the same owner. So... if it is Grit or Escape then maybe we'll see 12.3 launch soon so that both new networks go online at the same time.  I do like the idea of getting more channels but that will end up degrading the quality of 12-1 even further.

My TiVo recently told me of new channels available in my area, including 12-2. It looks to be offline currently but the TiVo guide shows some movies in the next few days, mostly from the 1970's, which is a slight step up from the 1960's movies being played on the new 18-2 channel.

My problem is a bit worse than audio dropouts. I have zero signal on 10.x channels.  It has worked perfectly for years,  up until today (or maybe a couple days ago since I haven't been on it in a few days).  My hd tivo registers strength at 60 or better on 4.1, 6.1, 12.1, 18.1, 24.1, 30.1, 36.1, 55.1, 58.1.  Given zero strength on 10.x channels I don't know if something is wrong with my location or not, possibly something limiting my vhf reception since all the uhf channels come in good.   I have other tv's in the house that also cannot receive 10.1 so it doesn't appear to be isolated to the tivo. Antenna is in the roof so not likely to be turned by outdoor elements.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / DirecTv FSWI 669-1

53150 is Muskego, right? If so, there is no way you shouldn't be getting the Milwaukee channels.   I don't have Directv but they've definately got something screwed up in their computer. If you can't get FSN WI where you are, then neither should people in Waukesha, since they are just as far from Milwaukee as you are.  Good luck with the digital giant.

I noticed it last night as I was flipping through channels after the late news. It may have started broadcasting a couple weeks ago because I got a message on my Tivo that said a new channel was available in my area. However, the message stated that  42-2 was now available, even though I couldn't receive it. I wonder if someone at Tivo transposed the numbers and it should have been 24-2 since 42-2 is a Madison station that I have almost zero chance of getting in the Milwaukee area.

Micky Dollar Oft?

I don't get it, sorry.

Best I can gather is that it means Windows Blows, so Windblow$. Get it now?
Seems to make sense to me, patches every month is no fun.

I have a Tivo HD, so the OTA experience with a Premier unit would be virtually the same thing. The Tivo has a decent tuner in it, so from Germantown I have no problem pulling in an OTA signal with the antenna mounted in the attic. I'm not sure where you live so if you have some way to judge OTA signals before you buy the Tivo that would be best.

I'll agree with the other comments that some of the other no-fee DVRs will save you some money, but they also don't offer some of the extras, such as built-in netfix/amazon/youtube/etc on-demand viewing.  If you already have a blu-ray player with netflix built in then that wouldn't matter for you.

I know U-verse has a bare bones option, U-Family or something like that, might be worth checking on.

In the end, if you do decide to go with the Tivo, think carefully about if you want to buy the model with the bigger drive, or go with an external expansion like the DVR Expander from Western Digital. You'll probably get more recording space for the money using the smaller Tivo and the external drive.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Tivo not recording
Sunday Aug 29, 2010, 10:18:06 PM
If you pull up the guide and go to the 6:30 episode and press record on the remote, do you get prompted to "record as planned" or something very similar? If not, then the tivo doesn't think that is part of your season pass. If you do get that prompt, but it still doesn't record, the tivo doesn't know they are different episodes, see below.

More to consider:
-Do you have your season pass setup to only keep a few episodes at one time, or all of them?
-Are you almost out of space?
-Maybe the guide information is making the tivo think that they are the same episode, just replayed. If that is the case then the tivo won't record it because it thinks that it already has that episode recorded. If the tivo thinks that both episodes are Season 2, Episode 18 for example, then it won't get recorded a second time untill the first recorded episide is deleted.

If all else fails, setup two season passes, one for the 6pm, and one for the 6:30pm shows.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Multiple Tivos

I would have expected someone to get back to you by now but since they haven't, I'll give you my thoughts.

I would think that you could get any model, series 3 or beyond and they would be able to transfer shows between them.  Series 2 might work as well if you find a good deal on one of those. As far as being able to instantly watch it in another room, I'm not sure about that. I always thought you had to transfer it to the other tivo before you could watch it.

Since you have one unit, you may be interested to know that this month Tivo is running a promo where you can get a Premier at a discounted rate, and get 1/2 off the lifetime service, plus free shipping.  Not too bad if you were in the market for another tivo anyways.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / 7/22 storm report
Saturday Jul 24, 2010, 07:00:01 PM
I'm showing a channel 18.3, same programming as 18.1 on my TV, the tivo detects the channel when doing a scan, but doesn't show any programming. Is this related to all the channel moves going on around here?

Quote from: ArgMeMatey;55713The bottom line is that people who watch MPTV should give them money, and they should report directly and concisely to Ellis Bromberg et al when they see things that could be done better.

You get what you pay for, right?  Most of the time, I do.

We all (well most of us) pay taxes, isn't that enough?

Quote from: Xizer;55703I have tried and tried to get MPTV to rescue me from this lunacy but I can only pick up an impressive signal of 10%. This is the only Milwaukee channel I cannot pick up with 75% signal or higher. I can even pick up every Chicago channel with 65% signal or higher except the notoriously weak CBS affiliate WBBM. I am using an Antenna Master DB2 antenna which is supposedly one of the best in the biz. For every other channel except MPTV that certainly seems to be an accurate assessment.

MPTV claims to have a coverage map that says their signal reaches as far as Waukegan, IL comfortably. Liars!

http://www.mptv.org/about/coverage/

I feel your pain. I am in Germantown and get the channel in just some days with the signal strength no stronger than 60%, while Fox, NBC, and CBS all come in at 95% or more.  It is tough to have the kids watch Sesame Street when the picture breaks up ever few seconds.
