Milwaukee HDTV Programming / SD for Prime Time on Demand
Friday Nov 04, 2011, 02:05:22 PM
Quote from: PONIES;57989HD Showcase has been integrated into Entertainment on Demand. They also combined Primetime OD and Primetime HD OD into one channel.

I understand that.

PTOD now returns SD Programs that (several days ago) were available in HD. For example, The Big Bang Theory is not available in HD.

There are only a few Programs on PTOD that are listed as HD.

Poorer service. :bang:

EDIT: I see that both SD and HD versions are available. The HD is in the Program description (after you scroll to the desired date).

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / SD for Prime Time on Demand
Friday Nov 04, 2011, 11:44:55 AM
TWC:  I see that HD on demand is no longer listed. Also Prime time on Demand now returns SD content for most Programs.:Smash:

 Previously, PTOD provided HD Programing.

I had similar problems a while ago. The Analog signals were fine and Digital SD were mostly OK, but most HD channels were breaking up and pixelated.  After visits by 3 techs, the final tech had a sophisticated tester that he connected to the amp at the pole, which indicated a problem on the Hardline "Down the Block". 6 hours later (after a different crew repaired the Amp somewhere on the line), the problem was fixed.

Tech #2 wanted to replace inside coax and Cable Box, but I resisted. Without the test unit that tech #3 had, the true problem could not be isolated.

Edit: The problem was NOT Signal Strength. The signal strength meter that tech #1 had showed good signal strength.

A friend had poor Ch 6 OTA Signal, Drop Outs and Pixelization. His wife called Ch 6 and they said to Re-Scan. They did and signal is now OK. How would a Re-Scan for a channel that was already in memory improve reception.

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / New Samsung Boxes in Milwaukee?
Saturday Dec 06, 2008, 08:41:29 AM
Quote from: Jack 1000;49469Thanks for this info.  I know some people with SD sets and HD boxes, (because that's what they had on the truck at the time of the install.  This also applies to my case.)

I still have an SA 8300, but have this question to be answered for future reference:

Let's say you have a Samsung box and an SD TV set and you are channel surfing, going to the 500 HD channels and the guide changes to 16:9.  I take it than, using the box, if you are on a SD set, you would have to go back and change to 4:3 under Settings manually, correct?

Jack

If I use the S-Video connection to my set (I believe that this would be the equivalent to a SD set), the banner and guide are the same width as the picture.

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / New Samsung Boxes in Milwaukee?
Friday Dec 05, 2008, 12:36:30 PM
Quote from: Jack 1000;49455Question:

On the new Samsung box, is Navigator shown as 16:9 or the traditional 4:3 screen setting when the guide button is pressed?  The newer boxes next year are supposed to have an option that will display the IPG in 16:9 format.

Jack

Depends on the Aspect Ratio Setting. 4:3 results in a 4:3 guide and 16:9 results in a 16:9 Guide.

HOWEVER, If you set the A/R to 4:3, it will change to 16:9 automatically when you select a HD channel. Then, it will STAY at 16:9 even if you select a SD Channel.

Thereafter, the Guide will STAY at 16:9 even when viewing a 4:3 Channel.

At least, that's the way it works with my Sharp LC-65SE94U.

Note: With 16:9 selected (or forced), viewing a SD Channel FORCES my Sharp to change View Mode to STRETCH Mode. The Resulting STRETCH Mode displays a 4:3 Display with SideBars and a 16:9 Channel Guide.

If I then change the Sharp View Mode back to SideBar, the Picture has double sidebars and the Channel Guide is displayed with single sidebars at 4:3.

I am using the HDMI connection to the Sharp.

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / Just got a Samsung.
Tuesday Dec 02, 2008, 10:28:54 PM
I just traded in a Pace DC551P for a Samsung SMT-H3050 Non-DVR Box. The Samsung works OK. No problems using HDMI link.

However the SD PQ is not quite as good as the Pace SD.

FWIW, the Samsung always puts out 480p on SD channels. (I have all resolutions enabled).

I had many problems with the Pace. HDMI didn't work at all on SD. Also changing from a 480 channel to a 1080 one didn't always change the resolution, had to switch back to the 480 channel and back to the 1080 to get the resolution to change.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Digital Conversion
Monday Dec 01, 2008, 09:30:43 AM
(Responding to troyriley)

In my previous post, The meaning of DTV is Digital TV, Not Direct TV.

I.E:

Ch 58 is already transmitting TV on BOTH their assigned Digital OTA channel AND on Ch 58 analog OTA. The 58 Analog OTA will cease in Februrary.

The channel 58 analog OTA frequency is not among those frequencies that will be used in the Digital OTA TV system. The Digital TV OTA system uses the physical frequencies assigned to Channels 2 through 51.

The Ch 58 Virtual Digital TV signal is being transmitted on a assigned Physical OTA Frequency  in the 2-51 group. This is happening right now.

Milwaukee HDTV Recorders & Players / Thanksgiving day only?
Thursday Nov 13, 2008, 07:11:14 PM
If I read the add correctly, it seems to indicate that the special price is only good on Thanksgiving day itself, Not Black Friday.
