Are you testing speed on a wireless device?

First thing Spectrum is going to ask you to do is .. plug in a laptop into the cable modem directly .. chances are, you'd need to reboot the cable modem .. then run your speed test.

If your wired speed test is OK .. you'll know the router (or your wireless device) is the issue.

And try a few different ones .. Speedtest.net or openspeedtest.com are my preferred sites.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Re: power increase
Monday Feb 12, 2018, 04:13:54 PM
Argh .. this likely will make my situation worse.

I'm 6 miles north of Downtown MKE .. I am just a couple miles away from the antenna farms South and West of me.  You'd think I'd get unbelievable signal .. but there must be interference / echos bouncing around, as random 4, 6, 12, 58 .. will randomly come in very poorly.

I've tried about 5 different antennas (no amps) .. including a paperclip.  I've pointed them in every direction .. and tried an attenuator as well, yet, I can never get good signal on all 4 at the same time.  The next day, channel A will be bad .. a day later, it's channel B that's all pixelated.

Good thing I have PSVue as well .. I can flip over to their DVR and watch those shows when they are corrupt on my OTA Tivo.

And .. am I reading the article correctly .. like, channel 36 got $85 MILLION dollars to give up their channel?

They can cancel the PBS Auction for the next 85 years!

Found this interesting from the link above ..

Not surprisingly, Wisconsin will see a lot of channel changes due to its proximity to Chicago -- all but one station in Milwaukee will change channels.

I'd almost hope they did that all at once .. massive re-scanning ad campaign.

Thanks for the efforts, Bob.  I've been an admin on SMF software for 10 years, it's solid.

You might want to take the opportunity to remove some of the dead forums that haven't seen a post for years.   Not sure old content is worth saving for archival purposes.   Just a thought.

I had this issue once.  9 years ago, my 32" tube went on the fritz, and I had a repair man visit.  He said he could fix it, but asked if I really wanted to invest or buy my first HDTV.

I said the same things you did .. who will take this?  Craigslist, maybe for free?  He said "I'll take it."    Great, off you go.

My wife came home and asked where the TV was.  "It's at Best Buy, in a box waiting for us to buy it."

As for your issue .. it's hard to find places that accept eWaste.  Our community does host a recycling day in April, and we end up with dozens of old TV sets.

So, basically they confirmed nothing and there's zero new information.

UGH.

Ah, crap.

Sounds like Maxx upgrades are suspended and Charter is looking for places to cut costs.  SHOCKING.

I wonder .. MAXX has been rolled out in a number of other cities.  I wonder how many days elapsed between the digital adapter date and the speed upgrades, to use as a guide.

Looks like Vue does not have regional Fox Sports, like WI.  It does have FSports1 and 2, though.  True, I do think they occasionally add "local" channels, which FSWI might be considered.

Welp, I only watched Brewers games when I just happened to flip through, so no big loss for me.

Here's their standard lineup:

So .. I cut the cord today.  Some items from my saga-

My TWC bill was $140, and they jacked it to $180, the final straw.

I called to terminate all TV services, and they quoted me a $90 rate for 30/5 internet, or $70 for 20/5.   Of course, the rates they give new customers are roughly half that.

So I called Earthlink, who uses TWC's coax.  Got their 15/1 service for $30 (for 6 months, then $42).

Interestingly, I use a voip provider, and while I was talking to Earthlink (on voip) they flipped service from TWC to Earthlink, which rebooted by cable modem .. my voip call went dead -- but when the cable modem finished rebooting .. the call was still active!  Crazy.

I went with Playstation Vue's streaming package, which is $30/month.

So .. I was paying $180 .. now will pay $60 for the next 6 months, then $72.

Quote from: Bebop;60254The saving will only be a short term. Someone will need to pay for the debts incurred from the take over. :(

What?  Cable rates going up in the future?  That's unpossible.

This is fantastic .. can't wait to downgrade.

Currently have 30/5 service and it is PLENTY for a family of 4, and streaming videos with regularity.

The 30 will go to 200, which is 7x more than I need.  Maybe 10x.

The lowest tier will go from 15 to 50.  Sign me up.
