Milwaukee HDTV Programming / WISN 12 News... new set, no HD
Sunday May 01, 2011, 09:42:30 PM
Quote from: Xizer;57265Excellent content is worthless if your eyes are getting molested the entire time. When the picture quality isn't up to par I consider the quality of the content to be greatly degraded.

At this point, it's just not worth my time to watch anything that's still in standard definition. I don't care how "good" the content is. There is far too much great stuff in high definition these days to watch in a lifetime.

So The Wire, earlier seasons of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and local SD newscasts - pass.

QuoteREVM1M I will refuse to watch ch12 & 58 as long as their news cast is not HD. Why would you have a new set but not HD broadcast

HD snobs. If the end of the world isn't broadcast in HD It aint on in my house!!!

You guy's crack me up. Are cars the same? If it's not a Bugatti Veyron, it's not worth driving?

Latest News / Should I switch??
Wednesday Mar 23, 2011, 10:18:44 PM
I had to change from D* to TWC. No choice in the matter.

D* customer since 1997.

In my opinion go to D*. and keep the RR.

The only benefit I've seen from the switch? I now get BBC America HD. THAT'S IT!

No NFL Network, no HDNET, and several other channels I can't think of off the top of my head.

Hardware doesn't even come close to comparison. D* has much better hardware.

The HR23 and HR24 superior DVR's compared to the ONE that I have with crapigator software. Larger HD for more capacity. Better response time.

D* guide GUI isn't that great BUT, it searches better, you can customize channel lineups and channels are better organized.

TWC has a mess of a channel structure with at least 3-4 different tiers with duplicates in SD and HD that you cannot filter out of the guide to make surfing better.

There is no comparing PQ. D* wins hands down, even factoring in the bit starved network transmissions. It just does.

With any Sat service, you're not sharing a feed with several hundred thousand people that ends up degrading, pixelating or in some cases just flat out telling you "Channel not available try again later"

Just my $.02 worth.

Milwaukee HDTV Recorders & Players / TWC DVR Service Charge?
Monday Mar 14, 2011, 09:57:23 PM
I could live with $8.00 month. Getting ripped off for the "recording ability" is bogus  and double dipping.

You either have a DVR or you don't. What difference does it make if it's one DVR or three.

They're not getting any more $$ from me.

I'm not playing let's make a temporary deal.

Milwaukee HDTV Recorders & Players / TWC DVR Service Charge?
Sunday Mar 13, 2011, 09:58:15 PM
Ok, I realize this is an old thread, but being a TWC sub for only six months now I didn't really pay attention to the TWC threads.

This weekend I inquired at the Southridge store about adding an additional DVR to my account. I currently have One DVR and One HD STB.

I want to move the HD STB to my office and put the additional DVR in the Living room.

EIGHTEEN DOLLARS A MONTH FOR AN ADDITIONAL DVR?!?!?!?!?!?!?      Really?

I walked out. Later I called. Same answer. I hung up.

I feel violated, ripped off, etc etc. That's outrageous {fart}

I wish I could go back to D*. :(

Quote from: Jack 1000;57044We had an outage of Cable/Digital Phone/Road Runner today for about 30 minutes in our node.  Maybe this was what was needed to solve our channel 1005 and 1012 problem.  Let's hope this has been resolved!

Jack

Well I was back to many of my HD channels "not  available at this time" Tuesday night and yesterday.

This morning ALL channels froze then black for about 10 mins. around 5:50 AM. Then returned. I didn't have time to check the channels that were not available recently.

Quote from: Xizer;56860I can tell you that I don't even consider watching WDJT's news an option on the table simply because of the fact that they aren't producing it in HD.

Well, there you go...

Forget the content, personalities etc it's all about Super Viper and Danny Gokey In glorious HD!!!!!

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Still no NFL Network on TWC?
Friday Nov 19, 2010, 12:44:25 PM
Quote from: Chinatown;56599Are you really that beholden to cable? Unless line of sight is the problem, get Satellite and your problem goes away.

Beholden? Hardly, more like held hostage.

A change in my living arrangements forced my move to TWC.

Longtime D* sub 13+ yrs. Line of sight is impossible for me right now.

If we were talking about the ping pong network I couldn't care less . but we're talking about the freakin NFL.

The NFL is ALL about the TV ratings. I'm not even sure how concerned they are about actual butts in the seats in the stadiums.

This p***ing match between the network and providers is intolerable.

TWC calling the network a niche network and worrying about the ratings outside of the season is nuts. Did they use the same argument with MLB, NHL or the Fox Freakin Soccer channel?

I want the NFL network back on my TV!!!!!

Quote from: gparris;56523It shows CBS58HD in the Dish site too, why would Fox6HD be a problem, Talos4?:huh?:

Quote from: Xizer;56511Or better yet, how about I just ignore this network since it is painfully irrelevant to modern society.

Yeah, irrelevant

Nielsen SoundScan also enumerated its top sellers of the 2000-2009 decade -- and country came off well here, too. Among the Top 10 best-selling artists, Tim McGraw came in third (after Eminem and the Beatles) with sales of 24,769,000 albums. Keith was No. 4 (24,469,000) and Kenny Chesney No. 6 (22,034,000).

McGraw was the decade's most-played artist, accumulating 7,965,000 spins. Country artists dominated this category, with Keith (No. 2), George Strait (No. 3), Alan Jackson (No. 4), Chesney (No. 6), Rascal Flatts (No. 7), Brooks & Dunn (No. 8) and Garth Brooks (No. 9). The only non-country acts were Nickelback (No. 5) and Green Day (No. 10).

Faith Hill had two of the decade's 10 most-played songs -- "Breathe" (No. 4) and "The Way You Love Me" (No. 6). Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance" was No. 7.

Quote from: brewtownska;56423I had a TWC guy tell me once I should unplug all the connections in the house like once a year to let out static electricity that builds up in the lines.  Maybe that's all it was.

When you drain the static from the cable, don't just let it go on the floor. If you do this, it will find its way back into the cable after a couple of months. This is called static migration.

To prevent this migration make sure you use a bucket when draining the static, then dispose of it properly outside of the house. (Static disposal). Be sure not to overfill the bucket. This would cause static overload which then will result in static cling if you get it on your clothing. :pyth

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / My Time Warner Review
Monday Oct 11, 2010, 08:11:53 AM
I'm not at home right now but,

Here's a suggestion from a friend I received in an email this morning:

Press "Settings" to access the Quick Settings Menu
Arrow left/right to highlight Display
Arrow down to highlight "Sort by Favorites" and press "Select"
Choose "Favorites First" and press "Select"

He say's it works for him. I'll give it a try tonight.

Maybe someone home during the day can try it and see if it works.

He say's he found it on the TWC website but, I find navigating through their site like trying to dance through a mine field.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / My Time Warner Review

Thanks for the responses

It seems that the Explorer 4640 HDC has the most problems. The 8300 HDC DVR has far fewer issues.

My RR seems to pretty good too.

I'm pretty familiar with how strong the signals should be, I'm a long time RR sub and used to have their phone service also and have had related issues at the old house in the past.

All of the issues taken as a whole are not ruining my viewing, and looking back on when the dropouts and pixelating were the worst does coincide with some of the reports of others.

I just very disappointed that I've experienced about a years worth of D* issues in the short span of a month.

It's going to take a while to figure out which hardware is going to work out the best.

If the issues with the 4640 continue I will be making that call for service.

One other question.. How do you select the favorite list I made to display in the guide. I see no option to select a favorites list for display.

Thanks
