Quote from: beeper;52154The PSIP time and date was correct this morning at 10:30 AM on my DTVPal CECB.

If the time is still incorrect on your unit, you may need to do an unplug reset or factory reset.
Do you have F206 or F207 firmware that lets you set manual clock time?

I'm at work, so couldn't check the CBS PSIP time today, or the time on my DVR.  Last night CBS PSIP was still off by a day.  Glad to hear that it's correct now.

I have F207 for the firmware.  It has the ability to turn off TVGOS for the guide display, but even with that turned off, it will not allow a manual clock setting.  It still says "time automtically acquired by TVGOS" or something like that.  The clock seems to drift regardless of whether TVGOS is enabled or not; there is some speculation on avsforums that the clock will set based on PSIP at times (which makes no sense!).

I'll check status tonight.

Quote from: beeper;52152The DTVPal DVR is an OTA digital HD/SD DVR. The receiver is not the problem.

The problem with Ch. 58's PSIP station time being 24 hours (or some other amount) off has occurred before and corrupts scheduled recordings from triggering on time because this device can use local CBS PSIP station time for it's global time. This device can also use a CBS broadcast TVGOS based program guide.

Incorrect PSIP clock time also makes the entire PSIP based program guide incorrect, as well as adversely affecting any brand digital tuner's PSIP guide data.

I just email them and it gets fixed soon after.

Thanks.  I left a voicemail for Dan Dyer at 58 engineering yesterday, but haven't seen it fixed yet.  I'll shoot an email to them too.

I noticed that 58 and its subchannels all have the PSIP time off by a full day.  49-1 has the same issue.  I would guess that 41-1 does too, but I don't feel like doing a rescan just to find out.  (I skip it, since it's on 58-2 anyway.)  Verified that, as of 11:00 tonight 5/31, WDJT et al showed time and date of 11:00 5/30.

DanDyer, if you still read the forum, could you please look into this?  Add perhaps check to verify that the TVGOS equipment is working properly as well?

Here's the reason I ask -- my DTVPal DVR has been in a fit for about a week, with the clock jumping all over the place and missing recordings.  When the time is off, it messes things up to the point that just watching TV becomes an exercise in futility.

My DVR gets both PSIP and TVGOS.  I can see from other PSIP equipment that the ch58  time is off by a day, but have no way to know if the TVGOS data is coming through properly.

Thanks!

Milwaukee HDTV Recorders & Players / DTVPal DVR

Quote from: StarvingForHDTV;50792Now that some of you have owned your DTVPal DVR for over a month, are you still happy with your purchase?

I absolutely love it.  I don't watch live TV anymore.

I have not had any of the reboot problems that are being discussed on avsforums, nor have any other people from Milwaukee that I'm aware of.  If the avsforum thread were there before I ordered, I'd have had major reservations about buying this.  I ordered in November, so it's a moot point.

I still don't get the full 8-day TVGOS guide data for channels 4, 10, and 36.  For those channels, it uses PSIP data which goes out 12-24 hrs or so.  It doesn't bother me, as I can still set manual recurring timers to record.

I still think this is a bargain at $250, provided you don't have the reboot issues.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Comparison shopping your TV service.

For those of you finding that you watch mostly network TV, here are my monthly costs:

OTA only:  $0
OTA dual tuner DVR: $275 one-time cost (including tax and shipping)

For internet, I pay $20 for AT&T DSL.

That's it.  I know I'd love to watch Discovery, History, TLC, ESPN etc. if I had cable / satellite, but I can't justify the expense.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / We spend a lot of money for
Wednesday Feb 11, 2009, 02:09:12 PM
We're OTA only.  We don't watch anything live anymore, now that we have an OTA DVR.

Here's what we DVR and watch regularly:
NCIS
The Unit
Without a Trace
Chuck
This Old House / Ask TOH

We record / watch when we can:
Nova
Scientific American Frontier
Simpsons
Family Guy

Plus we record some shows for the kids, like Sesame Street, Curious George, etc.

I find there's plenty to watch on OTA, especially when you have an HD DVR!

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / DTV Delay passes, now what?
Thursday Feb 05, 2009, 05:38:35 PM
Cuprisin's blog mentions 24 and 30 plan on dropping analog on the 17th.  He will have more info about other stations in tomorrow's column.

Quote from: nick3092;50373Considering the house is a majority of Democrats, and Obama's administration was pushing for it, those two events are inevitable.

I would have thought the same, but it failed to pass the House...

I guess the bill required a 2/3 majority.  They may try again next week...

"Democrats may try again next week, but this time in a way that would possibly permit amendments and require a simple majority to pass."

Quote from: skydivingnerd;50348We have TWC and got sick of all of the failures of TWC's HD DVR boxes so got a Tivo box.  Paid the $40 to have an installer come over and set up the cablecards.

Works fine some times.  However, we frequently lose the premium channels and when we call to get the cablecards hit we get a run-around because most of those call center morons don't even know what a cablecard is.

You need a tuning adapter to allow your Tivo to tune the channels that TWC is delivering via switched digital video (SDV).  These tuners should be available shortly directly from TWC.  There is another thread on this site that you'll want to read.  Search the site for "Tivo tuning adapter"

Also see Tivo's site about the issue.

QuoteMy wife wants to switch to U-verse.  Is their video service any better for Tivos?  I'm wondering if their cablecards are any better.

Tivo does not and will not work with Uverse.  (Uverse is not cable; it is IPTV.)  Sorry, your choice is TWC or OTA if you want to stick with Tivo.

QuoteAlso, is Verizon going to be putting in FIOS any time soon?

Not likely in Milwaukee.  Verizon has no service agreements around here.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / TV Guide On Screen

My understanding is that your box can only receive TVGOS via analog.  Channel 10 is your current source, then.  If it can only get analog TVGOS, you will be out of luck for any guide data after the transition without some work.

There's still speculation as to how it will work after the analog cutoff.  It might work like an old-school VCR, using time and channel for recording.  It might be able to use the TVGOS conversion feature of the Dish TR-40.  See the avsforum thread for more.

Quote from: John Polulach;50194I received TV Guide info with my OTA converter set to receive ch 10 analog and ch 58.1 digital.  I received info for all channels (except for the "36 group") for a day or two...now "no programming info is available".  Weird.  J.P.

Which OTA converter are you using?

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / TWC w/o STB
Friday Jan 16, 2009, 12:40:31 PM
There's more news on the tru2way front.  According to engadget, "Most markets will be tru2way ready by July 1st."  Story here.  After that, you just have to wait for the TVs that have tru2way capability...

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Is this possible

Do you know yet what will happen with your subchannels, once the HD feed goes live?  Will all three subchannels be squeezed in, or will one get dropped?

PBS, channel 10, carries the analog version.  CBS, channel 58.1, carries the digital version.

If you use the digital version, please post your results.  My DTVPal DVR that only uses digital TVGOS doesn't show data for channels 4, 10, and 36 (and their subchannels).

Thanks,
Will

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / TWC w/o STB
Friday Jan 09, 2009, 02:37:06 PM
Quote from: ddeerrff;49983Using the TV's built in QAM tuner, will I be able to receive all the default stations that TW include in the 'Digital package'?

I don't think so.  QAM will only get you the locals, from what I've read.  There are other posts on the forum that have updated lists of channels available.  Others can answer this better than I, as I don't have cable.

QuoteIf I have to, a cable card would be preferable to me rather than a STB.  But I have not seen any HDTVs advertised to have the ability to take a cable card.  Are there any out there?

Thanks,
Derf

It sounds like what you're after is CableCard's replacement, tru2way.  It's designed to replace the STB.  EngadgetHD is a good place to follow news about tru2way.

TW in Milwaukee seems to be a bit behind the times, so I doubt they have this rolled out yet.  (edit: just checked wikipedia -- they don't; it's only in select markets now.)  But if you really don't want a STB, you might consider buying a tru2way capable TV so you're ready when TW is.

Good luck.
