Here is a link to an article in Tuesday's USA Today about digital VHS players and recorders that can hold enough information for HD programming.

This is really old news, but it is the first time that I have seen a news paper article on the topic.

Still, its tape based and the format has a string of problems (just see the the  HTDC recorders (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=42) forum at AVS).

I hate tape formats.  Personally, I'll wait for the HD PVRs that are coming out next year.  Its rummoured that TWC may even get a Scientific Atlanta 8000HD, that will be able to record and time shift (ala TiVo like).  Now that would be interesting.
