After the recent price hikes with TWC's DVR and the poor excuse of improvements, I've been considering building my own DVR system again.

A few years ago it was pretty well known TWC flagged all programs except the local channels as copy-once, effectively making a multi-room DVR system impossible without the use of Xbox 360 based WMC clients.

I haven't been able to find any updated information to see if that has changed.

My ideal system would be MythTV based with Raspberry-pi based clients, however programs can only be flagged as copy-freely in order for recording via MythTV to function.

Does anyone know if TWC still flags all programs with the copy-once flag or do they now correctly use copy-freely flag?

MPTV WMVS is the only Milwaukee channel that still broadcasts on the VHF band as Jimboy states.

However, I think you will be just as disappointed in the HD line up on MPTV as you are with the Chicago station.  While PBS was once the leader in HD Programming, especially in Milwaukee, they seem to have gone backwards.

Most of the shows you list are not aired on WMVS (channel 10).  They are in fact aired on WMVT channel 36, which is a 480i SD channel.

This is because WMVT used to be the HD PBS channel for Milwaukee with no sub channels and WMVS was the SD channel with multiple sub channels.  However they flip-fliopped and most programming never went over to WMVS.

Many people don't even bother with the search un-feature.  We've all found it easier to search manually by just going to 1309 (fsnhd) in the guide and arrow through looking for mlb baseball.  When the game I want is not listed there I'll check WMLW.  (or if it is a Saturday afternoon game I'll check Fox, and Sunday night, ESPN)

Quote from: Tivoman44;55537Can anyone give me the prices for the different road runner levels?  Like I mentioned above I have lite for $26.95 a month that is like 700 kb or so, what are the other levels and prices?

No idea what it is now, but I know at one point the non-promotional pricing was

$19.99 for 768k
$39.99 for 3mbs
$49.99 for 8mbs

Promotions will change the pricing levels.

Quote from: Tivoman44;55526I saw with the more expensive version you could choose either home or away broadcast.  If for example the Brewers were playing in Houston, you couldn't watch the Brewers live via the Houston broadcast?

No, the game will be completely blacked out, away and home feeds

I have a subscription.   I have road runner 8.0mbps service.  Watching it via web browser even with their plugin installed, quality can be bad at times, mostly sound for some reason.

However, playing it in Boxee the quality is great and has little if any problems and except for the message "commercial break in progress" you'd swear you were watching it through normal means via cable, sat, or ota.

I would assume it would be comparable to boxee via ps3.

However, using road runner lite, don't expect to get anywhere near HD quality like I have.  It uses about 3.0mbps.

If you live in the Milwaukee metro area, you can use it to watch brewers games, however not live.  You will have to wait about 90 minutes after the game ends before it is available.

At least we aren't the only ones with guide issues.

In north side of Racine I always get 60-70% strength with attic mounted antenna.  On cloudy days that sometimes jumps to 90%.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Does TWC want my business?
Thursday Mar 11, 2010, 12:14:54 PM
So here's the situation...    a few years ago we had Digital cable, with an dvr and internet.  We found ourselves watching less and less tv and when we did watch it was mostly OTA channels.  We made the choice to cancel cable TV service and just use OTA.  We kept internet service because we live in an area where cable internet is our only option for broadband.  DSL isn't available.

Recently we made the decision to get cable tv again.  After calling TWC sales department I was quite surprised to learn they do not have any special offers that we would qualify for.  Every offer they have are for new customers only.  Since we kept internet service, we are an existing customer.

We are unable to get uverse or satellite, cable is our only option.

The price quoted for digital cable withOUT a dvr would add an extra $85 to our already $50 a month bill.    Whatever happened to "bundling" for a discount?  When asked they said, that is discounted.  Really?

It seems as though TWC doesn't want us back as a tv subscriber.  At that price we'll be sticking to OTA.

WISN is 12-1, not 4-1.

Best quality will most likely be OTA if you have good signal strength.  As far as I know TWC compresses all HD signals.

Just saw a commercial for channel 6's weather coverage right before King of the Hill at 6pm today.  It was in HD.  Looks great.

Does this have anything to do with the letter boxed in airings over the weekend?

Thanks for the heads up BTW

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Road Runner Speeds

Quote from: Bebop;52119It seems Powerboost is included with standard too and metering next. :)

http://www.timewarnercable.com/Wisconsin/learn/hso/roadrunner/speedpricing.html

I find that chart pretty amusing.

It lists "More than 2 People Online at the Same Time" and "Online Gaming" and "Watching Videos" all under turbo.

I have standard and have never had any problems with several people in my household all online at comfortable speeds.

I have also had 4 people all playing TF2 at once with no lag issues and the bandwidth usage left room for several more.

As for video, streaming HD video in real time is not a problem at all. (while others play a game no less)

I wonder how many people are fooled into thinking they need all that speed when they don't.
