Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / A conundrum
Tuesday Jun 08, 2004, 10:25:19 PM
Here it is.

The wallet in my signature is full.

I'm finally ready to add the last piece of gear to the collection... The big screen TV

Now the point,  Instaed of asking the usual question of what to get, I'm looking for a different direction.

What not to get. ??

I've settled into looking at.. RPTV's, 46-55", HDTV Ready, No need for built in tuner.  DTV subscriber. Budget $2,000 which includes the DTV tuner.

When you surf for opinions/reviews on manufacturers and models you get either glowing reports or it's trash.  You get the same thing from most of the big box sales associates.

Although I am planning on stopping at Flanners on Sat to check out the tent and the RPTV's.

I've begun schleping (sic)  around looking at sets.

I like what I see from the Toshiba cinema series, I'm waiting for the new 51" model to hit the stores.  Decent overall aesthetic appearance.  Pretty good picture (after dowsing the torches)

Given my budget, is there another line of gear I should consider?

Why? Other than Toshiba is &*(%^  and Brand X is better because that's what I have.

I'm usually alot more gung ho when it comes to purchases. But, and it's a big but.

I really don't want the better saying one night "you paid how much? and this looks better than our old TV?"

General (Non-HDTV) Milwaukee TV / TV6 Tower of Light
Friday Oct 03, 2003, 07:55:55 AM
While sitting around the coffee maker the other day some co-workers and myself were being a bit nostalgic when someone brought up the energy crisis in the 70's.

I mentioned that's when the TV6 tower of light went out.  I got a few goofy looks with that comment from some of the younger (30 and younger) pups.

I seem to remember something about the FAA using the energy crunch as an excuse to get the tower shut off for air traffic safety.

Am I right?

Also on the same subject, there used to a be a factoid sign at the base of the tower.  Was it, or is it, the tallest self supported broadcast tower in the country, world, universe?

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / TV6 Tower Work
Thursday Jun 26, 2003, 01:45:59 PM
I'm not sure if this post should be here or in the HDTV Equipment/Technical area.

Just a quick update from Estabrook park.  If you try to drive through the park you're out of luck.  Parkway is closed at Capitol Dr. and you cannot go through from the North either.

Patent scaffolding is presently erecting covered pedestrian/bike tunnels on the North and East side of the Tower site.

Safety lines now are strung up the tower to the top. More and more steel and equipment are arriving daily.

I guess maybe the work is proceeding after all.

Hopefully they'll put up a new coat hanger instead of using the current rusty one.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Nfl Tv
Wednesday Jun 18, 2003, 03:06:16 PM
Did anybody else see the article in the JS about NFL TV?

According to the article NFL films will be launching NFL TV on DirecTV to be included in the "BASIC" tier of service.

Article also stated they've started on air talent hiring.  Rich Eisen formerly with ESPN has been hired to "anchor" the channel.

I could not find the article on JSONLINE to post to back myself up instead of into a corner.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Whats going up?
Tuesday Dec 31, 2002, 11:27:00 AM
From my office I have a clear view of all the TV towers, (well actually I have to stand up and look further to the left for Lincoln park) anyway, Today I noticed a new antenna hanging off the community tower.

Couldn't see it yesterday due to the fog.  Anyone have an idea of who's antenna this may be?
