Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Spectrum Cable Card issues
Saturday Dec 04, 2021, 08:32:12 PM
Loadstar, not sure if you still check this.  I am attempting to get cable back, this time with 3 tivos (two S3s and one Bolt).  Spectrum cannot apparently pair them even though they say they are active and are getting good responses on their end.  My bolt keeps saying channel unauthorized v58.  My two S3s can only get broadcast channels (broadcast from Spectrum not from antenna).  So frustrating.  I miss Time Warner Cable.

About 3 months ago I noticed that my Series 3 HD cannot receive PBS via antenna.  I checked two other TVs connected to the same antenna, channel 10 and 36 (and all sub channels) come in perfectly.

I have done about four different channel rescans on my Tivo.  Nothing.  I thought maybe the Tivo found a "new" channel 10-1, etc, where I'd have to add that to my channel list, nothing.  I remember that happening in 2018 with the reband, it found two 4-1 ,6-1, etc.

I realize it's old, but what is going on?  Does the tower have a newer ATSC frequency that the Tivo cannot pick up?

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Picking up new OTA channels
Sunday Sep 02, 2018, 02:30:02 AM
One of my tivos seemed to die.

Attic antenna coax was connected directly to tv.  Channel scan.  All Milwaukee ota came in perfectly like always.  But i was also getting cbs on 5-1.  And i believe a fox on 7-1 (may have been ABC) Anyone know what affiliates these are

Supposedly I have 100 meg speed for about $68.00 a month.  Every speed test i do (browser on laptop) it shows about 40 down.  I have my own docis 3.0 moden (advertised up to 300 megs) with a wireless N router.  Coax from the poll to my attic with one female female connector to another rg6 coax.  What gives with the slow speed.

I think spectrum can't really provide consistent 100 meg speed.  I get they can't always but this is consistant slower speeds.

I lately have had nothing but issues with Tivo lately.  Loadstar please tell me you still check this message board.

My set up: Tivo Series 3 HD, Set up to receive OTA and Spectrum Cable (1 Multistream CC and Tuning Adapter)

Since about 2011 I had been using the Western Digital 1 TB external hard drive (certified by Tivo).

In early 2016 start having issues, that crapped out, I "divorced" the external from the main.  Everything worked fine.  November 2016 I tried to reconnect, seemed to work, then crapped out, then got the green screen of death.  Long story short, found a guy (IT professional who has repaired many Tivos before).  He said the HD crapped out, replaced with a 2 TB internal.

Got it back June 2017.  It has worked almost perfect.......except last week I got the error that the guide is running out of data......no problem just connect.....connecting didn't work S03 error.  Did some homework on the internet, almost positive it's not the hard drive as the Tivo is working fine otherwise.  Tried restarting (both the Tivo along w/ Router & Modem).  Internet itself has worked fine.  Tried reguided set up (that helped once).  Still couldn't connected.

Tried unplugging the TA and connecting, then once service "disconnected and loading" I disconnected  theethernet......seemed to take a long time and I plugged back in TA and ethernet, probably shouldn't, and got the S03.

So finally I did the Clear and Delete Everything.  Did that before I went to bed.  This morning I wake up to guided set up.  I did that, had to call Spectrum, the National CC hotline helped me very much and repaired the CC to the Tivo.  And what do you know it connected to the service.  I also connected again this afternoon and connected successfully.

My only concern is that it still has the message "still getting more program information currently available programs through Tue 8-29).

What's also weird is my option to set season passes has all but seemed to disappear (see example in picture below).  I have to go to Find Programs to do that.

Tivo is done with the Series 3, but you'd hope they'd release some patches.  In my research of S03 error, I thought I heard how the TA might have to do with that.  Is it the merging of TWC and Charter now Spectrum that's doing this??

I'm just afraid I'll have issues again with connecting to service

Back with TWC, you could only transfer OTA channels between Tivos and to Tivo Desktop.

I've noticed since it's Spectrum, the option exists for many cable channels now to transfer programs.  Wonder if CC will go away altogether.

I could have sworn that TWC was the only cable company that required a tuning adapter.  I thought other cable companies were able to provide two way cable cards to open up on demand....maybe I'm wrong about that?

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / Question on selling a Tivo
Tuesday Feb 02, 2016, 08:37:33 PM
Another question for you Loadstar (and others).  I am debating selling one of my Series 3 HDs with lifetime service.

How do I go about doing that (like on ebay), simply sell it.  Do I need to release it from my account, so then the new buyer simply adds it to his account?

Loadstar, this is a question directed at you, but anyone who knows.

I'm going to buy a Tivo Bolt.  I am most likely going to sell one of my Tivo Series 3 HD.  Can I take out the cable card and rehook my TA to the Bolt or would I have to call TWC to pair the CC/TA to the Bolt?

Also I used to have the 1TB DVR Extender external hard drive.  That crapped out.  I want to get a new external HD for the Bolt, are there others out there that would work, whether ESATA or USB?

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Other TV competitors
Wednesday Jan 20, 2016, 06:58:36 PM
The mention of the Charter/TWC acquisition made me think of this.

In Milwaukee, we can choose between Uverse, TWC or Direct TV or Dish.  Why don't we also have a choice to get Cox, Charter or Comcast (I wouldn't want them, but wouldn't mind having the choice)?

Any idea when Verizon Fios might be in Milwaukee?

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Former SD channels now in HD (TWC)
Wednesday Dec 30, 2015, 06:56:53 PM
It's been a while since I posted.

I still have my Tivo Series 3 HD.  Just got TWC back w/ multi stream cable card and Tuning Adapter.

I've noticed that SD channels such as 6, 10, 30 appear to be in HD just like 1006, 1010 and 1301.  My tivo is set to Native to switch from 480i, 480p, 720p, or 1080i. On those regular SD channels the picture still looks great and the Tivo stays in either 720p or 1080i. Is this normal?  Loadstar, are you still around?

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / High Speed Internet
Tuesday May 27, 2014, 09:11:11 PM
With Time Warner going to Comcast to then give Milwaukee to Charter, I have been debating trying another high speed internet.

Other than AT&T Uverse, are there any good deals for DSL or other high speed services in the Milwaukee area.  Do you need a phone line with DSL?  If anyone has DSL, how much do you pay a month and how fast is it?  Do they have tech support with techs that arrive within a day to fix any problems?

Hi Loadstar and other CC/TA users.  Have you been having issues with your SDV channels?  It seems that most of them are not available, not sure if I need to call TWC to have them reboot my TA.

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / Cable Card Tuning Adapter Question
Tuesday Feb 25, 2014, 11:46:34 AM
To Loadstar, and others.  I have two TiVo series 3 HD boxes.  Both TiVos have a multi stream cable card and tuning adapter.  I am thinking of buying a TiVo Roamio.

If I bought a Roamio, I probably would NOT get a third Cable Card/TA.  I would probably put one of the Series 3 into another room and not use a Cable Card/TA, mainly because I don't use that room that much.

Can I take a CC/TA out of one of the Series 3 and put into the new Roamio, or would this require me to call TWC to reactivate/pair it with the Roamio?

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Time Warner Ch 1222 CINHD
Friday Jan 03, 2014, 08:42:59 PM
With my cable card/Tuning Adapter in my Tivo, I currently have the Variety Pass.  Seems like I have most of your basic channels, all ESPN, MLB Network, NFL (not red zone), Discovery, Hallmark, Travel, ID Discovery, HUB, basically all your standard channels.

Does anyone by chance know what package CINHD Ch 1222 belongs to, and how much it may be?

I know I could call but I would rather have knowledge prior to that.

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / need a new wireless router
Monday Oct 28, 2013, 09:00:37 PM
I currently have a Netgear Wireless G WGR614 V9, four years old, am having trouble obtaining a signal in my house that once wasn't as big an issue.

What am I looking for in getting a new router.  I believe this is an old 2.4gb, do I go for 5 gb? Dual Band?

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / TWC Cable Card
Thursday Jul 25, 2013, 07:30:23 AM
Hello all,

I think I'll be going back to TWC from Direct TV even before my contract.

Questions (for Loadstar) and anyone else.  Does TWC still support the multi stream cable card and Tuning Adapter for Tivo?  Is the Tuning Adapter still free?  How much does the cable card cost monthly?

Does TWC still support basic analog cable (I think that's what it's called, where all you need is a coax connected to your TV and you get something like channel 2-78)?

Also for Direct TV, I need to find my contract to know for sure, but does anyone know the termination fee for canceling early.  I am 1 year into a 2 year contract.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / RCA Dish
Saturday Aug 11, 2012, 08:17:54 AM
I have an RCA dish on my house. It appears that the house is wired for it and the only thing missing are activated DVR boxes for it.  Does anyone know if this was Dish or Direct TV?

I have been thinking of getting Direct TV to go with my Tivo/antenna set up.  I was looking at Direct TV's Choice Package and keeping my TWC Road Runner.  Does anyone have Direct TV and is happy/unhappy?  Are there any hidden costs or start up fees?  Based on the price after the rebate and signing up for autopay, it seems to be cheaper than when I had TWC with my cable cards and tuning adaptor.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Local HD through Basic Cable
Sunday May 20, 2012, 07:44:12 AM
I remember asking this once but cannot recall the term.  If someone upgraded to an HDTV but only had basic cable (no box, no cable card) (simple coax connected to back of TV), what is it called where you get 4-1, 6-1, etc in HD, but it is not over the air, it is from the cable company?

Is there anything after buying the TV that they need to do to receive this, just run a channel scan?

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Rooftop Antenna
Monday Apr 02, 2012, 05:06:39 PM
I just bought a house in the Greenfield/Greendale area.  The house has a rooftop antenna installed, unclear as to how old it is.  It has a coax cable fed down into the basement.  I tested it out using a small tube TV with an Insignia converter box connected to it.  I did a channel scan and it only found about 15 channels instead of the normal 30 or 40 something if you count the sub channels.  Off the top of my head it found Ch 4, 18, 24, 36 and 58.  All channels found the picture came in well, had the TV on for a few minutes, zero pixelation, and the signal meter, while not 100% was into the high 70s and 80s.

It's clear that it is a UHF antenna.  I tuned manually to channel 6, and some others and it was a black screen with no signal.  Before I had a new antenna installed, any suggestions as to why not all channels were picked up?
