Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Woohoo! A Sinclair Update.
Sunday Feb 09, 2003, 09:13:00 PM
I'm sure that if Gaylord Broadcasting hadn't sold WVTV back in  1994, today they certainly would have DTV ch. 61 on the air now, and it also would be a CBS-TV network station as well.  However at the time WITI-TV announced in spring of 1994 of switching to the Fox Network, at the sametime Sinclair was in the process of purchasing WVTV from Gaylord Broadcasting.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / I guess we've lost a pioneer

I wonder how much vacation time Tim C gets from his job at MJ-S? He must get about 25 weeks of vacation, because often times when you look for his column you find the little box in the back page of the metro section says "Tim Cuprisin is on Vacation, his column will return next week."

Very well, today's article surely did critisizes HDTV. If he can't swallow in all the new technology...surely I could take over his job real easy.  Surely wouldn't mind the benifits, especially 25 weeks of paid vacation per year!

Testing Area / Test
Saturday Jan 11, 2003, 08:30:44 PM
Testing and getting familiar with the new look.  Looks Great!

Now how do I go about showing a pic of my face?  Don't see any option here to put up my picture.

Question is, do I really want to? Should I?

mcq,

I'm sure you are paying extra costs on your subscription service to make up some of the losses made by pirates.

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / New User Looking at HDTV PC-card
Sunday Sep 29, 2002, 08:38:00 PM
lummox, I saw your article and clicked on the site for it and checked it all out. Has a lot of great features and price isn't all too bad, its about $379 or something around that price. I haven't decided whether I want to pay that kind of price yet, have to see what else is out there.

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / New User Looking at HDTV PC-card
Saturday Sep 28, 2002, 09:26:00 PM
I have notice some companies are selling a HDTV PC card, which is something I would be very interested in getting to receive WTMJ-DT and all the local HDTV stations that are currently broadcasting.  Also I am into TV DX, but never have received any HDTV signals, since they don't appear at all on a analog TV.  Some DXers have tuned to certain channels on their analog TV and the channel goes completely black, like was the case at a Madison GTG where one of the DXers tune the analog TV to ch. 26 and the screen went completely black.  But with my analog TV, its just a blank unused TV channel.  Yes there is some indication of something if you adjust the fine tuner, but it didn't make my screen go black.  But now I myself along with a couple of TV DXers, would very much love to receive them digital signals, especially with HDTV in the pioneering days and watching current TV stations update themselves and get their DTV signal on the air, and even new DTV stations.

So right now, having reading the forums here for quite sometime, I am looking at getting a DTV PC card for my PC soon and get started.

And if WVTV-DT 61 comes on the air, they will probably move to channel 18 once they shut down their analog transmitter.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / WWRS-DT Now On The Air
Saturday Dec 14, 2002, 07:35:00 PM
I found out from my sources that it is channel 43, not 34 as mentioned before.  You are right Tom, it would be a problem if its on the same channel as WISN-DT.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / WWRS-DT Now On The Air
Thursday Dec 12, 2002, 09:32:00 PM
Mayville's WWRS-DT, ch. 34 is now on the air. This is the same analog station on ch. 52 in Mayville, WI with Trinity Broadcasting Network.

Thought I post this since this is a Milwaukee area DTV station and for those interested.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / LOCAL STATIONS HOORAY
Sunday Nov 03, 2002, 05:50:00 PM
Give it time.  If we are waiting patiently for WVTV-DT and WCGV-DT to go on the air, I am sure in the near future WITI-DT will eventually be ready to raise their antenna and increase their power.

Don't forget what about WJJA-DT and WPXE-DT?

WPXE-TV is owned and operated by WTMJ-TV and DT as well as AM radio and WKTI.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / WTMJ-DT now on 24 x 7
Saturday Nov 02, 2002, 05:07:00 PM
Ahh so WISN-DT goes on the air 24/7 right away, WTMJ-DT sees that and goes 24/7. This reminds me back in the mid 1980's when WISN-TV annouced going 24/7...WTMJ and WITI decided to follow that.

I guess any day now we will see WITI-DT annouce going 24/7 also. WMVS-DT will have to push harder in their membership drives to go 24/7, maybe in May have the Channel 10 Auction on for 2 weeks instead of 1.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Channel 12 Signal Strength

Almost anyday now WISN-DT should be testing, assuming the target date for full DTV operation is the 15th?

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / TWC Update - nothing new
Monday Oct 21, 2002, 09:32:00 PM
Its my understanding that TWC won't start airing WTMJ-DT until the first of the year 2003.  I believe that is the plan.

If WVTV/WCGV don't bother to go to DTV (which means they will have to shut down and go out of business), I hope one of the other stations will pickup WB, and UPN networks.  The other DTV stations in Milwaukee will be capable of airing other networks at the sametime, like WTMJ-DT could also carry a WB Net program on one, the other UPN, while NBC on their main.  Only problem is, then WTMJ-DT won't be able to carry full HDTV format of NBC program while carrying WB and UPN on the other digital channels. That means Smallville won't be seen in 16:9 format or whatever.  Because when TV stations carry multiple programming on their DTV transmitter, they won't be able to offer any of them at full Hi-Definition.  Its only when they are broadcasting in single programming mode that they will be able to transmit in full Hi-Definition.

Ahhh, they're building a new studio.  Well, if they are going through all that trouble and expecting to continue to operate the 2 TV stations for years to come, then they MUST look into getting on the air very soon with HDTV, otherwise they are wasting their money building a new TV station! Because they have to turn off their analog transmitters by 2006 either way, its up to them to either get HDTV on the air, or face going out of business!

They must have repeated that article in the "Past Week Business Notes" in today's Journal-Sentinel.
