Recommendations for HDTV-ready TV ~50" and prog. scan. DVD player?

Hello all,

Near the end of next month I plan to splurge on an ~50" RPTV that is HDTV-ready, a progessive scan DVD player, and get the $99 upgrade to the HD DirecTV.

I'm looking for any and all recommendations on what to purchase. DLP is too expensive for me so it's out. I'm wanting to spend under $2000 for the TV and hopefully around or undr $250 for the DVD player. I also have a Sony credit card and will have probably $225 worth of free sony $$$ to spend, so if I can either get a Sony TV or a Sony DVD player I would like to do that.

I'll be hooking up these units to an Onkyo HTS760 6.1 home theater system.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

EDIT: I'm also looking at AVSForum and other sites but would like as many different opinions as possible.
