On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / News Apps
Friday Dec 07, 2012, 07:10:50 AM
I've been looking and haven't been able to find anything.  I'm looking for an app (Apple Store) from one of our local affiliates that will push school closing to my iPhone.  I thought I saw TMJ4 advertise closings on their app, but I can't find anything as far as push notifications.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Charter Internet Reviews?
Wednesday Nov 10, 2010, 11:34:47 PM
Does anyone have Charter for Internet?  They are currently running a special on their 16MB service for 39.99/month for 6 months.  Paying AT&T 38.00 for 6MB DSL currently and wouldn't mind the speed boost.  How has their service been?  I plan on picking up a Motorola Surfboard 5101 online to save the $5/month rental fee.

I caught the end of the Denver/KC game today and you should be ashamed to have picture quality this bad and label it as HD.  Motion blur and artifacts were everywhere.  I caught the highlights on Fox postgame and the picture looked fantastic so don't try to blame this on a network feed issue.  You should really rethink all those worthless subchannels.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Buzzing from speaker...possible fix?
Thursday Dec 04, 2008, 09:19:05 AM
I've got a set of M-Audio studio monitors model BX5a.  They are about 2 years old (out of warranty) and one of them developed a buzzing sound.  This buzzing sound is present whenever the speaker is powered on.  I've tried swapping power cables, and audio cables with the other speaker but it's still there.  If I turn up the volume I can drown it out, but when there is nothing playing (say between songs on a CD) the buzzing drives me crazy.  I don't know much about speakers, but is it possible to fix this?  I paid close to $400 for the pair and I'd hate to have to get rid of them if it was something simple like a loose solder connection or something.  Any help provided is appreciated.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / D* AM21 OTA box users
Sunday Oct 26, 2008, 08:23:21 AM
I recently got one for my HR22-100.  When watching anything in HD the screen flickers when going into and coming back from a commercial break.  I checked the HD feed from the satellite and the screen flicker is not there.  It happens on every channel (mainly during primetime) and was curious if anyone else has this issue.  Should I try a re-scan or just call D* and have them replace the AM21?

Yard Sale / D* boxes (1 HD TIVO, 2 SD RCA)
Monday Oct 20, 2008, 03:02:44 PM
I've got a few older DirecTV receivers I'm looking to get rid of.  If no one is interested within a week or so I will list them on Craigslist.

I've got 2 RCA DRD435RH boxes.  These are SD boxes with standard RCA outputs, 1 S-Video, and also Digital Audio via Tosilink cable.  I only have the boxes and AC cords.  No remotes or cables are included.  A generic RCA universal remote will work just fine with them.  These would be perfect for a garage or basement.  I'd like $20 for the pair.

I've also got an HR10-250 HD Tivo.  I just did a clear and delete everything so it's ready to go.  Comes with the original box, manual, all cables, remote, etc.  It is in very good condition (non-smoking house).  It has the latest D* firmware for that specific box, and was working wonderfully when it was disconnected last Friday.  It has been replaced with a new D* MPEG4 HD DVR.  I'm asking $100.

I just got a phone call from D*.  It seems that sometime in August, they will be shutting off our national feed from Fox (channel 88).  The reasoning behind this is because we can now get our local in HD through the dish.  I wonder if this has anything to do with Fox 6 being sold recently?

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / D* VOD active
Wednesday Oct 31, 2007, 08:12:51 PM
I just got the update on my HR20-700 last night.  "On Demand" shows up when you press MENU.  Quite a nice selection of programming thus far.  You need to have your HR20 networked with a connection to the internet.  Thanks D*

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / How to convert voltage?
Tuesday Apr 10, 2007, 03:26:20 PM
Ok I know there are a few electrical wizards on this board so here goes.  I want to hard wire my garage door opener into my car.  The car's electrical system is 12 volts.  The garage door opener works off of two 3 volt batteries (the thin watch type).  Does this mean the garage door opener needs 6 volts?  Next, how can I get the voltage to drop?  Space is going to be a premium.  I plan on mounting the opener inside the dashboard and using a remote switch to activate it.  This is pretty much what I'm looking to do: http://www.vb.quik.com/jmciver/pages/garage.htm  The guy that created the website however, was using a 12 volt opener.  I cannot change to a different opener without changing the entire setup.  Any ideas?

...this year during NCAA March Madness.  I just saw a commercial saying CBS58 is "proud to bring you multiple games" (that look like they are broadcast with a $20 webcam).  This is just ridiculous.  The Badgers could be going in as a number 1 seed, and we will get to follow their championship run in webcam SD and not HD as provided by CBS corporate.  Combine this with CBS58's desire to keep them off of D* HD, and it's time to start looking for a different station.  Does anyone know if either Madison or Green Bay will be showing the games in HDTV as they are supposed to be shown?  I've been able to pull in Madison and Green Bay stations before as long as the weather cooperates.  And finally:

BURN IN HELL CBS58!!! :bang: :bang: :Shoot: :Shoot: :guns: :guns:

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Best way to run long RCA cables.
Saturday Mar 10, 2007, 09:00:01 AM
I need to run RCA cables from one room to another.  Rather than buying lets say 50' of RCA cables, is it possible to use regular coax cable and crimp RCA connectors to the end?  These cables would be hooked to a wall plate with RCA connectors on the outside.  Has anyone seen a plate with RCA connectors on one side and standard coax connectors on the other?  Just trying to get my options here.  Thanks!

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Up the power in FM transmitter??
Thursday Jan 25, 2007, 03:04:24 PM
I'm just wondering if this can be done.  I have a DLO FM transmitter for my iPod.  It is powered with the cigarette lighter, so power is pretty constant.  I'm looking to somehow boost the power output of it, since I've been getting interference lately.  Is this even possible?  Here is the unit for reference purposes:

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Victoria Secret Fashion Show
Thursday Nov 30, 2006, 04:03:20 PM
Saw a commercial for this last night.  It is supposed to air Tuesday 12/5 at 9:00.  I went to record it and WTF...Billy Gram!?!?  Looks like our local affiliate moved the show to 12:37AM 12/6.  I'm guessing there is no chance this will be in HD like it was last year. :bang:

Background:
My current Samsung upconvert DVD player is having a hard time playing DVD's I burned on my PC.  The player will take either 30-40 seconds to initally read the disk, or it will start playing normally, then start skipping and studdering half-way through the movie.  I've tried the disks in other DVD players and there was no problem.  I tried changing DVD disk brands and still have a problem.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was at Flanners today looking for a new upconvert DVD player.  I was looking at the Samsung DVDHD960 and the LG DH191H DVD players.  The Samsung was $180 while the LG was $120.  Both of these players say they will support DIVX playback.  I asked the salesman about this and he said that DIVX disks are dead, and were meant to compete against DVD's.  The DIVX disk was only good for a certain number of plays before it became a coaster.  I thought a DIVX disk was basically putting a video file that were encoded with DIVX from your computer directly to a disk.  Basically, I thought you could drag-and-drop video files onto the disk and play them in your DVD player, much like viewing a JPEG disk.  So who is right here?

Does anyone here have any experience with either of these DVD players?  With my current DVD player, I can't see any difference in video quality if it is connected with DVI versus component cables.  The salesman assured me the new player would be better than my old one.  Again, who's really right here?

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / Speaker wire covers
Tuesday Jul 25, 2006, 03:12:18 PM
...where do I find them?  You know, those plastic covers that go in the corner of the room so you can hide your speaker wire.  I would prefer if it were paintable.  I've tried the known local businesses and have found nothing.
