Netflix HD uses about 4-6 Mbps.. you should be fine.

Even though Earthlink says 7mbps, you'll probably get 10mbps.  It's still TWC, you'll still get billed by TWC... though you get support through Earthlink, email goes through Earthlink if you use the ISP's email, etc.  That's how it was when I had Earthlink around 5-6 years ago.  They might use a little different routing than TWC, though I can't remember.

Latest News / TWC:Channel Changes/New Stations
Wednesday Nov 28, 2012, 11:35:14 PM
You can order free "digital adapters" from TWC to get the channels that are moving to all digital if you have any TVs that are directly connected to cable: http://www.twc.com/digitaladapter.  They also have the adapters at the Mayfair store.  They are about the size of a Roku streaming box.  The adapters are only authorized for channels 1-99, local channels in the 900s, and local HD even though they are capable of tuning all non-SDV channels.  There is also no EPG on these boxes.  Basically as functional as the old SA analog boxes from 10-15+ years ago.

They will probably want to install the modem as close to the NID (phone box on the outside of your house) as possible to avoid signal loss.  For your 2nd TV, they can use existing coax runs for the box, otherwise there is a wireless box they offer.  It uses a separate 802.11n (5GHz) access point that they provide.

After the promotional deal their rates were pretty high compared to what I was paying with DIRECTV.  I didn't try to negotiate down, and went back to DIRECTV after the deals ended.  Now I'm with TWC and an even better deal :D.

Picture was softer than with TWC and DIRECTV, and fast movement was noticeably worse (picture blocked up/pixelated easier).  U-verse uses very low bitrate MPEG4 compared with other providers.  The SD channels are much better than TWC and DIRECTV though.

Things that I liked about Uverse: instant channel changes, whole home DVR, guide is better looking than TWC

Dislikes: Picture quality could be better, you're limited to 3-4 HD streams coming into your house (so if you happen to be recording 4 shows at once, you can only watch something recorded on the DVR or one of the current shows recording).

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / TWC New Customer ONLY Deals!
Wednesday Jun 27, 2012, 04:23:02 PM
To get deals from TWC, I've usually had to threaten cancellation (or be a new customer like I am now).  They really treat their new customers well for at least 2+ years, but leave the long time subscribers with the high bills.

With DIRECTV all I had to do was call in, ask for deals and they gave... free premiums for a year, $10-$15 off the monthly bill for 1-2 years, etc.

Latest News / TWC Navigator/Box Update
Monday Jun 25, 2012, 10:43:33 PM
I didn't get an email, but got an automated call.  Just got installed last week - Cisco 8742HDC.  So is this update basically just a color change of the guide?

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / SDV Channels
Tuesday Jun 19, 2012, 11:01:40 PM
Got installed tonight and checked the SDV diag screens on a lot of channels.  Looks like many of the SD digital channels are not SDV, while the majority of the HD are (more popular channels aren't, like USA, TBS, TNT, FX, etc.).

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / SDV Channels
Friday Jun 15, 2012, 03:34:51 PM
I just switched back to TWC for TV after being with DIRECTV for the past few years (install is next week).  Anyone know if the majority of the channels are on SDV nowadays?  I have a TV with a cablecard slot but it won't work with a tuning adapter, so I'm just wondering if it would even be worth getting a card for that TV...

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Cable modem TW is supplying?
Monday Mar 26, 2012, 08:22:48 PM
This is the info I get from the SBG6580 with RoadRunner Extreme.  Other than the wireless settings and QAM channel settings, TWC pretty much gives you full control of this modem/gateway.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Cable modem TW is supplying?
Saturday Mar 17, 2012, 01:47:08 PM
Found a thread about this happening in NYC: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27011786-New-fee-monthly-modem-rental-2.50-TWC-NYC-new-customer

Existing customers are grandfathered in supposedly with no fee.

Here's a list from Texas of approved modems... shouldn't be too different here:

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Cable modem TW is supplying?
Saturday Mar 17, 2012, 08:52:17 AM
Nope, TWC still supplies the modem and doesn't charge rent.  I don't think they would activate a modem you bought, but I could be wrong.

If you get RR Extreme (30/5) or Wideband (50/5), you will get the Motorola SBG6580 DOCSIS 3 gateway (wireless is disabled if you don't pay for it).  You can turn off the routing functions and just make it act like a regular modem.

If you get anything below those two options (such as turbo, standard, lite, etc), you'll probably get the Cisco modem that was mentioned above (or maybe they're starting to use the Motorola for everyone, not sure).

MPEG2 Free-to-Air / Looking for HD OTA box
Thursday Feb 23, 2012, 10:49:21 AM
The older HDTVs that were considered "HD Ready" didn't have an OTA HD tuner in them, just the inputs to support HD (Component, DVI, maybe HDMI but not likely).

MPEG2 Free-to-Air / Looking for HD OTA box
Wednesday Feb 22, 2012, 12:23:57 PM
I don't have any experience with them, but the old Voom boxes are still able to pull in OTA stations and they're pretty cheap if you can find them on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Voom-Motorola-DSR-550-used-HD-sat-over-air-receiver-/220821055618?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3369f5e882.

Other than that I don't think there's much out there other than DVRs like Tivo or Channel Master TV.

I had RR Turbo for a couple years at $40/month.  It went up to $45 so I downgraded to standard at $35/month.  When I dropped cable TV and kept RR, I somehow got an indefinite discount other than that $5 rate raise... they told me the other discounts would last 2+ years.

I dropped RR for Uverse in October, but now I'm back on RR with the new customer rate (RR Extreme 30Mbps for $50/month for a year).

Go through retentions like others have said and you should be able to get some discounts.

I lived in an apartment in Waukesha about 5 years ago... my apt faced west.  I had the antenna pointed East, with another unit across the hall in the way.  Most of the time I had no problems pulling in all of the stations.  I believe it was a brick exterior.

This is the antenna I was using: http://www.antennasdirect.com/store/DB2_antenna.html.
