Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Quick question on UHF /VHF
Monday Aug 05, 2013, 01:43:34 PM
Quote from: Jimboy;59561A simple web search would reveal the following.....

Jimboy,

totally unrelated to this post, but I was just wondering if the move to the new studios have been completed yet

Most of the page loads fine...it's just the smiley icons that are slow...  You can still post w/o letting them load all the way.

Quote from: REVM1M;59453I had regular roadrunner last month and my bill was about $51.00 and then this month my bill went up to $61.00. When I called to cancel, they upgraded my to Turbo for 12 mo for $51.00. I have NOT noticed any difference on speed. How do I know they did upgrade me to turbo. Speed Tests does not show that much of difference .

You may have to reboot your modem for the change to take effect.  If there still is no change, give them a call

Latest News / WITI to be Sold to the Tribune Company
Tuesday Jul 02, 2013, 03:06:33 PM
Quote from: John L;59424WITI seems to be the only station in Milwaukee that is always going thru different ownerships.  I don't expect any changes to the station, I'm sure they will continue with FOX. The only thing that COULD or MIGHT change would be its traditional call letters. But I doubt that will happen.

Changing the call letters would be foolish, as would dropping FOX.  The changes of there being any on-air changes in my opinion is slim to none

Quote from: Jack 1000;59043How bad is the weather out there?  System is clean otherwise.  Is there anything where my Wireless network could cause a power failure in bad weather?  My little lamp light is dimming as well.

Jack

No...nothing within the wireless can cause a power failure.  Sounds like you're getting power sags (as evidenced by the dimming lamp), it's dipping enough to cause the computer to briefly lose power, and as a result reboot.

While this isn't related to any Milwaukee tv station, I thought I'd share this since it relates to a Milwaukee based company:

Journal Broadcast Group entered into an agreement to buy Nashville's Newschannel 5 (WTVF) from Landmark Media

Full Stoy here

It'll be interesting (for me at least)  to see what, if any changes they make..

Quote from: PONIES;58740our ABC affiliate may be full bitrate but it upscales ABC network programming to 1080i which is pointless and slaps its own second bug on top of ABC programming - something NO other ABC affiliate does...

So..you've personally seen all 200+ ABC affils. to make this claim?  Somehow..I think not..the second bug thing is far more common than you think.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Attic antenna
Thursday Jul 26, 2012, 09:36:44 AM
Quote from: PONIES;58724I think you will need a large roof antenna to accomplish such a task. The networks for each DMA purposely try to ensure that their signal is just weak enough that people in the next market over can't get it very easy.

That is untrue.  The area they serve is determined by the FCC.  They are licensed for a certain antenna height & location which serves a particular area.

Quote from: Jack 1000;58706The thing is,

I know that going mobile is the thing, but I love watching on a big 40" 60" HD TV.  The monitors are too small and it hurts my back and eyes sitting at a computer screen for several hours watching a movie.  Unrealistic to have a 50" HD monitor for a PC/TV situation.  It's pricey and you would have to have a King Kong sized desk.

I don't think mobile is all that great.  I've tried watching movies on my PC and don't like it.

It's just not the same as a huge HD screen and a recliner or couch.

Jack

Thats very easily done Jack.  You can connect a computer to a TV, or get something like  a Rouko box, or any of those varients.  A lot of DVDs and even TVs are Internet ready and able to access apps such as Netflix.  You don't need a computer.

Quote from: Gregg Lengling;58704The Future:  all delivery Via IP....just like netflix and others these groups will start selling streaming subscriptions to their channel packages and there will be no middle man to mark it up.  This will be the beginning of ala carte programming delivered by the Producers of the product.

As more and more Internet connected TV's are produced and the applications are refined this will become the dominant method of delivery.

Maybe not tomorrow but sooner than you think

I agree.  Really, all I need right now is a Internet connection, a Roku box, and Netflix and Hulu Plus subscription and I'd be good.  Probably a antenna to watch the local news and stuff.. If I didn't have roomates who are DVR junkies I'd probably cut the cable

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / MPTV tower work in progress
Sunday Jun 10, 2012, 09:58:16 PM
Quote from: ArgMeMatey;58540I noticed this week that there is some yellow latticework and what looks like a new antenna going up on the SW leg of the MPTV/American Tower Company tower on Humboldt.

Who can tell me what they're doing and what the yellow thing is called?  Thanks.

The yellow thing is called a Gin Pole.  It used to mount things on a tower

there was another thread on this... the site they are at lost power last night.  Chs 10, 30, and 36 were off the air.  WKLH and WXSS which also transmit from that site were on their backup sites

General (Non-HDTV) Milwaukee TV / Tim Cuprisin 1958 - 2011
Wednesday Nov 23, 2011, 05:25:40 PM
No time is a good time to die, but it's always sad to see this so close to the holidays.  I didn't know Tim personally, but read his articles on JSOnline, and OnMilwaukee, as well as his tweets.  True, he wasn't really on the bandwagon initially for HDTV but I still very much enjoyed reading his articles.  He will be missed.  RIP Tim. :(
