Milwaukee HDTV Recorders & Players / TWC SignatureHome
Sunday Apr 28, 2013, 10:37:04 AM
I had this install done this week and replaced my old 8300HDC STBs with Cisco 8742 HDC STBs.  The Cisco box has 500Gb of HD storage per STB in a much smaller size.  The CISCO box is at least twice as responsive as the aging 8300HDC.  I don't really care for the new control but I guess I will get used to it in time. Picture quality is good and the new STBs seem fine.  I do like the whole house DVR concept.

I always had lightning fast internet service typically over 20Mbps with just the standard internet service.  It is now over 50Mbps.  Not that I can really see much difference but it is what TWC advertised.

Voice is the same except that there is now no separate added charge for the voicemail services.  Need to look over the My TWC app to see if this is useful for me.

Moving to the SignatureHome service reduced my monthly bill by about 10%, over doubled my internet speed and got me faster STB's with much higher storage and ease of use.

The installer was on time and very knowledgable.  He was not in a hurry and answered all my questions. He set up the hardware and tied into my existing Apple Time Capsule/wireless router. He was familiar with the hardware he installed as well as my Apple hardware.

So far I'm liking the switch.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / I'm in deep trouble now
Friday Dec 18, 2009, 03:33:54 PM
TW added a slew of new HD channels and the wife just noticed that QVC is now in HD.  She ran for the credit card after 5 minutes of watching a jewelry show.  LOL

Easy come easy go.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Audio issue... Anyone else?
Tuesday Sep 15, 2009, 06:21:31 PM
My TWC service consists of an SA 8300HDC with an optical hook up to my Denon receiver and surround sound system.

My receiver switches to Dolby Digital on all the HD channels just fine.  When a non-dolby digital signal is present the receiver automatically switches back to ProLogic II.

All except for these 8 channels.

FXNHD (522)
MHD (523)
VSHD (525)
FXHD (535)
HLMHD (545)
NGCHD (549)
SPDHD (580)
MLBHD (583)

These channels switch my receiver into Dolby Digital and the audio track is just splinters of audio.  The picture on these channels is fine but the audio is just bits of the stream.

I just had them out again and their tech said they don't support dolby digital.  WTF

I asked the tech if he thought I was the only TWC customer with a large flatpanel display and surround system and he said no.  I asked him if others have complained about this same issue and he said yes.  The tech was instructed to disable dolby digital to correct this problem by his supervisor.  Nice.

I wonder if anyone else has found a solution to this joke.

I really don't care for TWC's non-solution much.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / New TWC.SA8300HDC Issue
Wednesday May 21, 2008, 10:12:28 PM
According the the TWC tech who just left, TWC has begun sending out a new software update over the past few days.  The result of this "update" is to cause the screen to freeze sporadically upon powering on with the SA8300HDC. When this freeze takes place there is a banner showing on the bottom quarter of the screen with the channel number and the time bar. The top 3/4 of the screen remains black.  The fix requires pulling the power plug and rebooting.  It also will miss record things you have scheduled.  While the screen is frozen you have no control of the unit at all.   Guess the only workaround for now is to not shut it off.  The TWC tech came out a couple times today and replaced the hardware boxes again.  Both boxes I own failed repeatedly starting this past Sunday, 5/18.  The boxes he replaced them with have the pre-update software but they will get the update again soon so the problem will return.  The tech could offer no solution and indicated it could probably take quite a while to get the software bug fixed.

Anyone else seeing this issue yet??

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / FOX NASCAR Race
Monday May 30, 2005, 05:26:32 PM
What was going on with our local FOX (6.1) station Sunday?  The NASCAR race was fed in HD in many areas around the country but the first hour or so here in Milwaukee was in SD.  What is the cause for miscues like this?

I get the impression that they really don't seem to care much about the service they are providing. Maybe I need to try to get get a waiver and get my feed from DTV.

Is there any place to formally complain?  I did attempt to call the station several times but I guess they don't staff the place on Sunday.
