HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Sears, Roebuck and Co. will
celebrate the invention of television by introducing its expansive plasma TV
selection in more than 650 of its largest stores nationwide.  America's love
affair with television was spurred in part by Sears, which began selling
seven-inch TVs more than 50 years ago.
Sears' consumer electronics department now boasts the nation's largest
selection of the latest development in television: 42-inch plasma and liquid
crystal display (LCD) TVs that are light and thin enough to hang on the wall.
Plasma TVs are the next level of home entertainment technology, combining high
definition television (HDTV) picture quality with ultra-thin design, just four
inches deep.  Sears' plasma TVs will include four product models from Hitachi,
Panasonic and Samsung.  LCD offerings include seven models from Panasonic,
Philips and Samsung.
"More Sears customers are investing increasingly in top-quality home
entertainment because Americans are spending more time at home with their
families with the recent decline in personal travel," said Ray Brown, vice
president and general manager of Sears' consumer electronics business.  "The
convergence of these two trends, along with Sears' commitment to home and
families, makes this the ideal time to introduce the largest selection among
national retailers of flat-panel plasma and LCD brands."

    About Sears Consumer Electronics

Only Sears sells the top eight brands of big screen TVs and offers:
-- Notable customer service, including knowledgeable sales staff

       advantages

Continuing Sears' commitment to energy-efficiency, some models of flat-
panel TVs sold at Sears are ENERGY STAR(R) qualified, meaning they consume
about 20 percent less energy than a non-ENERGY STAR television. (Prices on the
new plasma TVs range from $5,499 to $8,000).
Sears also carries a wide array of home theater equipment, including DVD
players, VCRs, video game consoles and stereos.  In addition, Sears provides a
wide variety of electronics to use on-the-go and in the car, such as
camcorders, cameras, personal digital assistants (PDAs), MP3 players, car
stereo equipment, XM Satellite Radio and Sirius.
