Latest News / Charter to buy Time Warner Cable
Friday Dec 23, 2016, 10:46:14 PM
Almost all the trucks I have seen are Spectrum.

I wonder what will happen to Earthlink packages when the minimum internet speed will be 60? I guess most of the TW internet subscribers will see their speed go up and price lowered.

Latest News / Signal ISP Wireless - anybody got tech details?
Tuesday Jun 28, 2016, 01:38:04 AM
I asked them if there is a tower near my area. And the reply was  they are expanding as fast as they can. :-)

When people signed up on their site right now for service. They are placed on a map. The area with the most sign ups will get service priority.

I'll probably be stuck with Charter for at least a year.

Finally got a email replay from them. They are not ready for site survey or decided on what the upload speed will be. There is no time frame for either.

Quote from: ArgMeMatey;60265Thanks for that link.  One user posted a ping of 3 on Ethoplex compared to 18 on Charter. I'm guessing the unit is ms, but it doesn't actually say that. http://i.imgur.com/ECjH4mw.png

Someone else said no installation fee.  So, $50 per month, $2.80 per month tax (at 5.6%).

I am skeptical that they can scale well in terms of consistent throughput, compared to copper VDSL or HFC DOCSIS, but I'll wait to see what others find.  I can only guess that at that price point, they'll attract plenty of people who will be eager to measure 100 Mbps at full rate, and will let us know if they're disappointed.

Any idea if there would be a minimum spacing from a terrestrial TV receiving antenna?  I would prefer to use the existing mast on my house rather than put more holes in the roof.

Well, at least we have some leverage when dealing with Spectrum's customer retention.

I think I'll sign up. I'll probably get it before MAxx :)

Quote from: duncantuna;60257What?  Cable rates going up in the future?  That's unpossible.

Too bad there are no competitions.

Quote from: MrProster;60262re:FSWI , Slingtv has recently added regional sports channels for an additional $5 a month I believe. Just as long as Charter doesn't impose a data cap , seems like a great deal.

No cap for at least 7 years.

Quote from: duncantuna;60247This is fantastic .. can't wait to downgrade.

Currently have 30/5 service and it is PLENTY for a family of 4, and streaming videos with regularity.

The 30 will go to 200, which is 7x more than I need.  Maybe 10x.

The lowest tier will go from 15 to 50.  Sign me up.

The saving will only be a short term. Someone will need to pay for the debts incurred from the take over. :(

Quote from: LoadStar;60245"Spectrum," not "Maxx," now that we're about to become Charter. This according to a Charter spokesperson in Albany:

http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Goodbye-Time-Warner-Cable-as-Charter-enters-the-7466821.php

In any case, June 21 is the goal for the digital cutover. From what I'm hearing from Time Warner people, they may not be complete with their work by that point, and probably won't have the internal changes ready that are needed to support Maxx/Spectrum.

I also doubted 21st will be the date. They have slowly increased the bonding channels to 12 right now. We'll need 16 channels for Maxx/Spectrum.
