Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Time Warner/TM4 carriage dispute
Tuesday Jul 16, 2013, 02:38:33 PM
There are 3 other stations that I can get my "news" and weather from.  I watch all my NBC programming on Hulu on my own terms.  No loss here.  Go outside and enjoy the short summer.

You are right, just a single district, single or multiple schools. Haven't checked with twitter and never heard of AlertNow, but I'll check those out.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / News Apps

I've been looking and haven't been able to find anything.  I'm looking for an app (Apple Store) from one of our local affiliates that will push school closing to my iPhone.  I thought I saw TMJ4 advertise closings on their app, but I can't find anything as far as push notifications.

Yard Sale / Motorola SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0 modem

Asking $80.  Works perfectly.  Charter just changed their policies and I can no longer provide my own modem.  I've got all the hardware, box, and manuals.  More info here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UI2FPE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

If anyone needs a modem let me know.  I have a Motorola SB6120 that's just over a year old.  No problems with it, but Charter just changed their policies and you can no longer provide your own modem.  Asking $80.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / New Set Coming for TMJ4

Quote from: PONIES;58962If their goal was to drive viewers to piracy then it's working.

I would rather pirate a recording from someone who has an ABC affiliate that isn't an *** than watch WISN's bug polluted crap, higher bitrate or not.

With piracy scene rips being available from other ABC affiliates or international channels, and even logo free copies from retail download services, there is no reason to watch WISN's cluttered mess. WISN isn't even on the radar for me when it comes to sources to view ABC network programming.

+1 to everything said here.  My shows are available for download less than an hour after airing, no commercials, no bugs, and I stream them to my Apple TV connected to my TV.

Not to make this a ****ing match, but I'll throw down.

$40/month through Charter using my own modem.  Technically I'm paying for the 18/2 package but I have not seen those speeds on even my worst day.  I love Charter!

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / U-Verse Internet Speed
Saturday Apr 21, 2012, 07:50:26 PM
Someone may want to update your link to speakeasy.net  I went to speakeasy.com and instantly got hit with a trojan.  Thank goodness for realtime virus protection.

Quote from: WIwinger;58461I have U-Verse internet service 6000/1000.

I wanted to check my speed yesterday and I opened speakeasy.com as I have done many times in the past.  This time when I selected a site "i.e. Atlanta or Chicago etc." the speed needle quickly spiked to around 5.3 and in the blink of an eye slowed down to about 1.0 for downloads for the rest of the test.  Then for the upload the needle quickly spiked to 9.3 and then within a split second slowed to 3.0.  The results showed 5.3 and 9.3.  It seems to me that something is wrong because in the past the needle would always hold at roughly what the speed was supposed to be during the complete test.  I checked the speed on three computers, one plugged directly into the residential gateway, one plugged into another router behind the gateway, and one was wireless.  The results were the same.  The needle would always spike and then within a split second slow way down on every test.

Do you think I have a problem with my gateway, or is U-Verse intentionally slowing down the speeds, but spiking the beginning of the results so speed testing software would show a better result?  I also tried with pcpitstop.com with the same results.

Thanks

Got the update this morning on both my HR20 and HR22.  So far so good.  Smooth and fast.

Quote from: trev57;57736Really? The guy I know that works at WDJT told me they were still on track for mid September-early October. Then again, it wouldn't surprise me if they did end up delaying it.

What's the point?  By early October the Brewers will be in the playoffs on FOX/TBS.  No sense in upgrading until April if they have to wait that long.

If it's already out of warranty just fix it yourself.  The fan assembly is $25 and will take less than an hour to replace.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Charter Internet Reviews?
Thursday Nov 18, 2010, 04:10:00 PM
Quote from: mrschimpf;56591Actually there shouldn't be a problem at all; the 16MB plan has a 250GB cap. You'd have to stream Netflix all thirty days for so many hours, or be a very heavy data user and torrent entire weeks of primetime to get even near that.

I've been monitoring my usage as of late on both my computers. I download 2.5 GB of podcasts a day from CNET, Revision3 and TWiT, all very video heavy at HD quality, and do around 30-40 YouTube videos a week, then some more for audio podcasts. On average I usually get to 85-90GB per month. If you use the Network Meter Sidebar Gadget you can track your bandwidth use by accounting and then resetting at the start of your service month, then adjust if you're flirting with 250GB. However it shouldn't be a problem at all.

Agreed.  Initially I was worried since I do download and game quite a bit.  However the contract I signed made no mention of any download caps.  Any implementation after I have signed and I'm out of contract free and easy.

Tech diagnosed everything and said I have a great signal.  I'm pushing 30MB/s quite a bit, and have yet to see anything under 20MB/s.  Not bad for the 16MB/s package.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Charter Internet Reviews?

Picked up a Surfboard modem on Craigslist for $20.  I'll be ahead after just 4 months.  Just got off the phone with Charter.  They were able to guarantee the $39.99 16MB connection for 24 months. Install is this Tuesday.  If everything goes well I'll be calling AT&T on Wednesday to cancel.
