This is really old news, but it is the first time that I have seen a news paper article on the topic.

Still, its tape based and the format has a string of problems (just see the the HTDC recorders forum at AVS).

I hate tape formats.  Personally, I'll wait for the HD PVRs that are coming out next year.  Its rummoured that TWC may even get a Scientific Atlanta 8000HD, that will be able to record and time shift (ala TiVo like).  Now that would be interesting.
