I think you'll be happy with it, I know I am!

As for video tapes, recently I was able to pick up an 8-pack of 8 hour Sony's at the Target in Waukesha for about $18. That's the only place I've seen 8 hour tapes. Both Walmart and Target still carry 6 hour tapes at all locations I've visited.

Jimmy, if you want to keep using your VCR, I suggest getting a Zinwell ZAT 950A converter box. It has 8 built in timers that will turn the box on and switch the box to a particular station at a specified time. You hook it up to your VCR's Line-in and set the VCR timers seperately to record the line-in signal.

The DTVPal converter box also has 8 built in timers and has a better user interface than the Zat. The caveat is that neither box is 100% reliable in firing the timers correctly. I own both, and found the timers on the ZAT are much more reliable, but still not perfect.  I check the timers 3 times a week to make sure they are still accurate. I use the DTVPal only for live TV. Once I got used to this set up, I liked it a lot, mostly because it cost about $100 in total to go digital.

My parents own a DTVPal DVR. Theirs works perfectly, but it seems to be the luck of the draw getting one that works properly. Dish user support sucks, and they stopped shipping new units at the end of January. Not sure if or when they will resume.

General (Non-HDTV) Milwaukee TV / Me-Too coming soon?
Saturday Mar 21, 2009, 07:48:54 PM
I really like MeTV and would be thrilled if Me Too makes it up here. I've noticed that there's more "real" advertising on MeTV lately (fewer retromercials and PSA's), so hopefully that's a sign that this format can sustain itself here financially.

General (Non-HDTV) Milwaukee TV / Me-Too coming soon?
Saturday Mar 21, 2009, 12:27:02 PM
I noticed that some of the new promos on Me TV are now branded both Me TV and Me Too. Anyone know if there are plans for Me Too to be broadcast in Milwaukee (presumably on 49.2 or 49.3)? Or are they now just recycling promos from the Chicago market?

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Ion Media Networks Offerings
Wednesday Feb 25, 2009, 12:33:16 PM
What are the chances that Ion will change one of their subchannels to show their Sony catalog of classic sitcoms that they own? I used to watch Ion just about every night of the week but stopped when they took off all the classic shows a year or so ago. I occassionally watch Drew Carey at 3PM, but am frustrated that everytime they put it back on the schedule they start over from the beginning of the series. This is one network that really seems to get a kick out of punishing viewer loyalty.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / 6-2 on the horizon?
Monday Feb 23, 2009, 04:10:59 PM
When I turned on my DTVPal DVR today, it prompted me that 6-2 had been added as a channel. When I tuned to it, there was no signal. I then scanned for new channels on my digital converter box, but didn't find 6-2. Was this a hiccup or is something in the works at channel 6?

Milwaukee HDTV Recorders & Players / DTVPal DVR
Monday Feb 16, 2009, 10:22:32 AM
I've had mine since Christmas Eve and couldn't be happier with it. This is my first DVR so can only compare it to a VCR, which it blows out of the water. Be aware that many people (but not me) are having serious issues with the DVR, and there haven't been any causes or solutions pinned down yet. Also DISH customer service for this thing is the pits.  AVS forum has tons of information: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1099071

Latest News / 4.2 No longer weather or is it?
Friday Feb 06, 2009, 07:36:11 PM
It looks like the weather station will stick around after all. All "Weather Plus" branding has been removed (even on the national radar/satelite maps) and the new station name is "WTMJ Weather".

WKOW in Madison has RTN as a digital subchannel (27-2). I'm able to get it if I turn my antenna to the west, but unfortunately that screws up reception of some Milwaukee stations. I'm going to try it again after analog is shut off and all stations go full power. There is very little programming on RTN that overlaps ME-TV.

And what will happen when June 1st rolls around and Nielsen reports that 3-4 million people STILL aren't prepared? And then October 1st when 2.5 million aren't ready...you get the idea.

In reality, the major networks don't want analog shut off because they think that most people who still watch analog OTA will switch to Pay TV if they end up left in the dark, which will cut deeply into their ratings. I wouldn't be surprised if analog is never shut off.

Latest News / 4.2 No longer weather or is it?
Saturday Jan 17, 2009, 02:12:56 PM
I just turned on 4.2 to find a duck hunting show being shown, with the ususal weather graphics on the boarder. Looks like a transition is underway, and not just E/I programming.

Milwaukee HDTV Recorders & Players / DTVPal DVR
Wednesday Dec 31, 2008, 08:37:29 PM
I received my DTVPal DVR on the 24th and have pretty much the same opinion of it as Will does.

As for the TVGOS, I think that 58 has the signal turned on, but TVG isn't providing any data yet.  So while there is a TV Guide logo on the guide, it's actually all PSIP information.

I compared the guide on the DVR to the guide on my DTVPal converter box in another room (which is PSIP only) and they line up pretty much the same, so I'm pretty confident the DVR guide is completely PSIP based right now.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Analogs May Stay On Another 30 Days
Wednesday Dec 31, 2008, 08:22:54 PM
If they wanted to do this in a way that made any sense, they would have forced analog stations to go to half power on January 17th and have a constant crawl on the bottom of the screen for the next month telling people they will see NOTHING on Feb 17th instead of a snowy picture and constant crawl. That annoyance would get people to act, but in the meantime they would still get something on the analog stations.

General (Non-HDTV) Milwaukee TV / 49.1 reception problem
Friday Dec 05, 2008, 02:23:21 PM
I haven't been able to get a good consistant signal on OTA 49.1 (MeTV) for the past couple of days. Has anyone else experienced this?

It's still the same, except the local part of it has rebranded back to "Storm Team 4". I personally hope they keep it in it's present form or at least put it on when signficant weather is occurring. I'm not holding my breath though.
