Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / How do I hook this up?
Sunday May 16, 2010, 10:28:22 PM
I'd advise that your 2nd converter box be a different brand so that your remote control doesn't control both boxes at the same time.

If you have a TV with multiple RCA inputs, it makes things easier. Have the 1st Converter box connect to the VCR's RCA input, then connect the VCR to the TV via the TV's first RCA input. The second converter box would then connect directly to the TV's 2nd RCA input. Use a splitter to connect the antenna to both converter boxes. I've used this setup on two TV's for the past couple years and it worked out great for what it is. I use a Zinwell Zat970 converter box for recording and a DTVPal converter box for live TV.

If your TV doesn't have multiple RCA inputs, you can find tube TV's on Craigslist for $40-$60 (27"). I've gotten three TV's this way and have two setup at this time. Works great, except for the fact that the converter boxes are notoriously bad at implementing timer recordings and you have to deal with multiple remote controls. But, it sure beats spending $300 or more on a basic LCD TV then another $300-$600 on a DVR if such things are not high priorities in your life.

Milwaukee HDTV Recorders & Players / New CM DVR CM7000DVRPAL

It's simply a rebranded DTVPal DVR. Dish/Echostar are no longer selling them under their name.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / TMJ4 Weather
Saturday Jan 23, 2010, 07:51:42 PM
It seems that when TMJ4 switched 4.2 over to Accuweather, they also replaced their own HD weather graphics with SD Accuweather graphics. Talk about  downgrade!

Since you are well past your 90 day warranty, the chances of Dish helping you out are slim to none. This has happened to several posters on the AVS forum.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / 58-4 Now Broadcasting

I don't know what it will be used for, but what's airing now become extremely pixlated with the smallest amount of movement. On a side note, ME-TV 49 has been having major "hiccup" problems the last few days, and is on the verge of becoming unwatchable.

NBC is essentially abandoning the 3rd hour of its primetime lineup by airing Jay Leno 5 nights a week at 9PM, so it's in the process of falling to a level on par with CW/MNT. The only product they have that is popular is Sunday night football, and I suppose the olympics. I can see WTMJ rationalizing that dropping NBC and rebranding as the "local news station" during primetime will get higher ratings over the long haul compared to NBC's prime time lineup.

I can see channel 4 eventually dropping NBC affiliation and going just local programming, mostly news, with infomercials during the off-peak hours. They are actually pretty close to that now anyways. Channel 18 or 24 would probably pick up NBC then.

RTV takes suggestions for programming on their Facebook page (see first post for link).

RTV is now airing on 6.2!

WITI has been added to RTV's list of affiliates, but with the caveat "coming soon":

I hope that because they can customize their programming for local markets, they will only show programs not already on ME TV

I don't have cable, so I don't know how that's going to work, but RTN does customize its lineup in some markets, and they have a lot of programming available that METV doesn't air.

Edit: RTN  IS coming to Channel 6. It was posted on their Facebook page on Friday (Scroll to the middle of the page):

Retro Television Network Tatiana Ballion correctly guessed the next city that will launch RTV. RTV will launch next week on WITI in Milwaukie ! Forgot to mention Tatiana won a DVD box set !Fri at 7:08am

I've watched it on and off the past 2 days, and they are already replaying videos from yesterday and earlier today. Their library must be miniscule.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Lost digital Ch 18

My DTV Pal has labeled the "new" 18-1 as 72-1 and won't correct it if I delete the old 18-1. Oddly, it still puts 72-1 between 12-1 and 24-1 in the channel lineup. And now last night I turned it on to find 13 new services, including 41-2 through 41-7 and 63-2 through 63-7. I don't know what the point of that is, but between all of the Weigel stations in this market they must be closing in on 25 subchannels assigned currently.

Glad to hear you like your Zinwell. Just keep an eye out for the timer corruption. I recently had a streak of about 6 weeks without problems, then the timers became corrupted 2 days in a row.

As for reception, most of the converter boxes have tuners that are better than those found in most HDTV's that are a year old or more. My Zinwell occasionally gets reception of a few Madison stations, but only when atmospheric conditions permit. You can try an amplifier, but it might over amplify stations with strong signals, which would cause more problems than it solves.
