Milwaukee HDTV Recorders & Players / Finally Switched to DirecTV
Wednesday Aug 31, 2011, 06:42:24 AM
Thanks for that info!  I'll see what box I get...  I will give them a call maybe tonight and ask again about the whole home, because for an extra $3 / month that would be worth it.

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / DirecTV's Slingbox?
Monday Aug 29, 2011, 06:25:40 AM
So it will store it on the mobile device?  That could be nice as well - if you are on a plane or somewhere without service it would be nice to still be able to watch your recorded items.

I have finally decided to leave TWC and switch over to DirecTV.  I've always had cable and internet with TWC, and not too long ago switched my phone over to them.  However they then continued to raise my price every few months, and the last two times when calling customer retention they wouldn't budge.

So for the first year I'll be saving around $75 / month over TWC, and once that first year is over I'll still be $20 less than TWC.

I have a few equipment questions.  The install isn't set until next Friday - but do they have different models of HD DVR equipment?  What are the differences?  Should I hope for one over the other?  Do they all have antenna inputs that will allow me to pull OTA channels through the receiver if I choose?

Also I have our main HDTV in the living room, then in my bedroom I have an older EDTV - so I was thinking I would get an HD box for that TV so I could watch some HD content on it.  But they stated if I get a 2nd HD box then I would be able to pull the recorded content off the main DVR, so they would have to charge me $10/month for whole home DVR.

I didn't think it was worth it since that TV only gets used when the Brewer games go into extra innings or they are playing out West and we turn the TV on while we lay in bed.  But does anyone know if I'm able to pick up a used HD box for that TV?  If so would I be able to watch HD content - and if so would it also be able to pull the recorded shows off the DVR?

Milwaukee HDTV Recorders & Players / DirecTV's HD DVR
Thursday Mar 17, 2011, 09:07:06 PM
I'm considering switching to DirecTV, from TWC once again.  I had a couple of questions about their HD DVR that the person on the phone wasn't able to answer for me.  First does anyone know what is the model number of the HD DVR they will be giving out to new customers?

And then is both the HDMI and component outputs able to be used at the same time?  And more specifically will the component output work if the HDMI is connected to a TV that is off?

The TWC 8300HD shut off the component output if the HDMI was connected to a TV that was off.  This is an issue for me with my slingbox, because if I want to sling the output of the box to my phone or laptop, I don't want to have to have my TV physically on for it to work.  So my work around for TWC is to have the TV hooked up via component as well, since the slingbox has a pass through for component.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks,
Nick

This is the sole reason I had my iPhone jailbroken, so I could utilize this app over 3G when it first came out.  A couple nights ago I upgraded my Slingbox app and removed the jailbreak and have been trying it out since.  Overall I'm very pleased.

They did say the app is now "optimized" for 3G, which basically means the quality will be crappier.  And it is a bit, but I use this the most on the bus ride home from work (I work downtown Milwaukee).  And at that time of the day downtown I used to have a lot of bandwidth issues, and sometimes it would be unwatchable.

I tried yesterday and it was much more watchable.  No where near as many pauses while watching it.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Vizio LCD with Charter HD
Thursday Mar 05, 2009, 07:33:12 AM
I don't have charter or that box - but take a look through the box settings.  On my Scientific Atlanta I can set it to stretch the SD picture if you want to get rid of those black bars.  It will work for the SD CHANNELS, but if you watch something on an HD channel that is in SD it will still have the black bars.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Used Cars
Monday Mar 02, 2009, 06:42:02 AM
I just bought a 2007 MDX 3 months ago.  They don't seem to be moving much on the used cars (at least Acura's), but we still got it for a pretty good price.  But I will say I love this vehicle!  It is incredible to drive and it has plenty of "goodies" on it.  We got the tech package which gives you Nav, Backup Camera, 5.1 DVD Audio system, and voice activated everything (phone, nav, radio, climate).

I haven't had a game recently to check to see if they can get it in HD :D  I haven't heard anything from AT&T yet either on it...

But it sounds like it is kind of hit or miss if you will get it in HD depending on your location - at least that is the way it was last year.

No - I don't think it is a Maserati.  The logo isn't right - although close.

Did you happen to walk around the car - any distinctive markings on the back?

Yup I noticed those 4 in the 500's in Brookfield as well last night!

Quote from: VoltronMaximus;48579The park does need a new scoreboard. When I was last there about a month ago, I noticed a vertical blue line that went right down the middle of batters picture on the SB. Do they need an HD.....no. But they should at least get the one they got now fixed.

Yeah I noticed that too but they had fixed that before the season ended this season.
