Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / Local shops selling antennas?
Saturday Aug 09, 2014, 08:48:13 AM
Hey guys, wondering if anyone knows of any shops that sell real outdoor antennas around the Milwaukee area? I would really prefer to buy local than order online. We just cut the cable a week ago and I am looking to upgrade our OTA capabilities. We live in Waterford so I am looking for something that has good range.

QuoteGREEN BAY, Wis. - Time Warner and LIN Television have reached agreement, bringing the FOX station in Green Bay back to cable.

Since early October, about 150,000 Time Warner customers haven't had a FOX channel because of a dispute between LIN of Rhode Island, owner of affiliate WLUK.

A posting on WLUK's Web site says representatives from the two sides resolved their differences overnight Tuesday and that cable customers will be able to watch their favorite shows on WLUK beginning Wednesday.

FOX is also carrying the MLB World Series, which resumes Wednesday night.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / WTMJ Issues
Thursday Oct 02, 2008, 08:31:32 AM
WTMJ seems to be having issues this am. Every cut away from the Today show goes to a static 4x3 shot. Sometimes the pic just vanishes to black.

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / Grounding OTA setup
Friday Sep 05, 2008, 02:07:21 PM
Any thoughts on the best way to ground an OTA setup outside? I was thinking of grounding it to the same block D* is using. Not sure if this is advisable or even matters. If I ground it to where D did theirs I have an easy run and dont need to do anything special.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Chicago Spotbeam
Wednesday Sep 03, 2008, 12:07:59 PM
I am considering a "move" to a Chicago address and was wondering if anyone here in the Milwaukee-Wisconsin area is getting their locals from the Chicago spotbeam. If so, what are you getting and how is the quality/stability?

This would have been better BEFORE the transition to mpeg4 and forcing everyone off the tivo based DVRs! ;)

http://www.broadcastnewsroom.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=504621

QuoteEL SEGUNDO and ALVISO, Calif., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DIRECTV, Inc. (Nasdaq: DTV), the nation's leading satellite television service provider, and TiVo Inc. (Nasdaq: TIVO), the creator of and a leader in television services for digital video recorders (DVR), announced today that they have extended their current agreement, which includes the development, marketing and distribution of a new HD DIRECTV DVR featuring the TiVo(R) service, as well as the extension of mutual intellectual property arrangements.

Under the terms of the non-exclusive arrangement, DIRECTV and TiVo will work together to develop a version of the TiVo(R) service for DIRECTV's broadband-enabled HD DVR platform. The product will support the latest TiVo and DIRECTV features and services, including TiVo's Universal Swivel Search and TiVo KidZone. TiVo will develop the new HD DVR for an expected launch in the second half of 2009.

DIRECTV will continue to develop and offer its own portfolio of industry leading set top boxes as primary offerings to both new and existing customers. This new TiVo box will be offered as an alternative choice to those DIRECTV customers who would like to add TiVo to a full line up of DIRECTV services.

"We have had a very successful history with DIRECTV. Together we brought the TiVo experience to millions of DIRECTV customers and now we look forward to launching a next generation product that uses TiVo's latest features to truly showcase DIRECTV's broad selection of high-definition programming -- all stitched together with the elegance of TiVo's renowned user experience," said Tom Rogers, TiVo's CEO and president. "This agreement demonstrates our continued embrace of mass distribution opportunities in cooperation with major multichannel operators who recognize the value of giving their customers a choice of compelling user experiences."

Like prior products developed by TiVo and DIRECTV, the new HD offering will be marketed and sold by DIRECTV nationally to its entire customer base as part of its growing portfolio of brand name video offerings. Specific consumer pricing and packaging will be announced in conjunction with DIRECTV's launch of the product.

"As the industry's content and technology leader, DIRECTV has a long-standing reputation for developing innovative, advanced products and services, including our highly successful series of DVRs and HD DVRs," said Chase Carey, president and CEO, DIRECTV, Inc. "We will continue to work with TiVo and make this new product available to all new and existing DIRECTV customers who may want to add TiVo on top of our industry leading experience."

DIRECTV and TiVo began their relationship in 2000 with the launch of the first DIRECTV DVR with TiVo service. In April 2006, the companies announced an extension of their commercial and advertising relationship and those commercial and advertising capabilities are further extended, and now include the new HD platform. DIRECTV and TiVo also recently deployed a software update to existing DIRECTV with TiVo boxes, which enables new features like DIRECTV's Remote Booking.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

I just setup a slingbox here. The primary purpose is for my uncle in Japan to be able to get his sports fix and see the Maryland games. So far it seems pretty awesome but my testing has been limited to inhouse lan usage. Looking for some real world info and maybe some tests.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Thank you CW 18
Sunday Aug 17, 2008, 08:45:31 AM
Just a shout out to CW 18 to say thanks for the carriage of last nights game. I do not know the details, who produced it, fed it etc but watching on CW 18 last night was fantastic. I had no real expectations on the quality I was just not expecting it in HD and to be done so well :) I had to watch on QAM so I couldn't use any dvr functions but the quality was excellent, no issues aside from our teams play.

Thanks guys!

Mike & Mike on ESPN said that CBS 58, WDJT has reported they will have the "ability" or "are attempting to be able" to carry 8 Jets games this season, if you include one of the MNF games, that takes it to 9 games Favre fans might be able to see in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / Diplexers
Wednesday Aug 06, 2008, 11:41:54 AM
Does anyone know of any places locally aside from RadioShack and HomeDepot/Menards that sell diplexers locally? By local I mean remotely close to Milwaukee/Kenosha/Racine.  They can be had online for 3-4$ a piece but I would like to get some locally to make sure my application is even going to work before I order online and get stuck with them :)

I may have just found my reason to upgrade the ole' TV!!

http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/directv-remains-clear-hd-leader/story.aspx?guid=%7BB3E33FE2-C94F-4B6A-AEFA-A7D0C16222BC%7D&dist=hppr

QuoteEL SEGUNDO, Calif., Jul 28, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- DIRECTV, the nation's leading satellite television service provider, continues to dominate the HD landscape by delivering significantly more quality national HD channels than any other television provider in the nation via the most advanced technology. Beginning August 14, DIRECTV will launch more than 30 additional HD channels, bringing the total HD channel lineup to 130.

DIRECTV will also transmit all of its HD programming in the MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding standard, by the end of this month - the first to do so in the industry. All HD programming will also be available in the Dolby Digital audio format, and later this year, DIRECTV will begin offering movies in 1080p, the highest resolution format available for HD video enthusiasts and the same format used by Blu-Ray HD DVDs.

Among the new HD channels that DIRECTV will launch next month are Showtime Extreme HD, Showtime Showcase HD, Planet Green HD, ABC Family HD, additional DIRECTV HD pay per view channels and an additional 23 Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) in HD 24 hours a day.
"Despite all the sound and fury of confusing HD claims from our competitors, our customers understand that DIRECTV is the destination for the most compelling and complete lineup of HD content," said Derek Chang, executive vice president, Content Strategy and Development, DIRECTV, Inc. "Our message is clear - DIRECTV is the content leader, and our delivery of the best quality HD via the most advanced technology is one way we continue to dominate this category and offer our more than 17 million customers nationwide an unparalleled entertainment experience."

In addition to its full lineup of linear HD channels, DIRECTV continues to lead the industry with the most sports HD programming available, by broadcasting exclusive, interactive sports packages like NFL SUNDAY TICKET(TM), NCAA(R) MEGA MARCH MADNESS(TM) and NASCAR HOTPASS(TM) all in crystal-clear HD. DIRECTV will also continue to add HD content to its newly launched DIRECTV on Demand platform.

The full DIRECTV HD programming lineup, including the new channels, and details on receiving equipment needed for the new DIRECTV HD services, are available by calling 1-800-DIRECTV or visiting directv.com.
With the DIRECTV 11 satellite now part of the fleet and the launch of the DIRECTV 12 satellite next year, DIRECTV will have the capacity to deliver 200 national HD channels and 1,500 local HD and digital channels in addition to new advanced programming services for customers nationwide.
