Is anyone else having issues with Time Warner Cable occasionally having channels turning on the "Audio Descriptive Service" even though no other channels do?

If you don't know what that is, it describes the non-verbal action for the seeing impaired.  "Bob opens the door", etc...

I've checked the settings on the box and on the TV, the SAP is NOT enabled.  In fact turning on the SAP will sometimes get rid of it...but then most of the other channels are in Spanish.  Oy...

Any thoughts?

While I wait for TWCableHelp to get back to me, I'm wondering if anyone here has any suggestions.

We've been having more and more problems with this box.  It has dropped recordings because of "unresolved conflicts" when non exist.  It has allowed us to schedule "series" recordings, but not even picked up the very episode that we used to start the series recording.

Case in point.  How I Met Your Mother wasn't set to record last night.  So...I deleted the series recordinge.  Rebooted the box, and then reset the series recording...it didn't pick it up.  I could set it manually however.

But...when I did that, the series recording for Dancing With the Stars fell off.  I had to manually set that one too...

So it's happening most often when we have two tapings at the same time.  Even if we're not watching the box, and I've gone ahead and tuned the two channels in question so that the tuners shouldnt' have any conflict!

I'm afraid we're looking at a box swap, which I really don't want to do.  One...we have a few items to catch up on on this box and Two...I have a feeling that we'll get stuck with a box with lower HD capacity.

Any thoughts?

For the 2nd week in a row, Navigator has eaten one of our recordings.  LOST was the victim this week.

My wife likes Law & Order: CI so I set a series recording for it.  However, at it's normal time it causes conflicts with our other series recordings so I set it to record the replay at Midnight every week.

Every week it insists on reverting back to the normal time...unless I go in to the series recording manager, verify that it says Midnight and hit save.

The person at Time Warner offered to have someone "come out and look at your equipment".  I (in my mind) patiently explained that my equipment was fine, that it is their software that has a bug.  I explained that there have been numerous bugs since they replaced their software with this homegrown POS.

She had no idea...:bang:

She encouraged me to have anyone else who is having issues with Navigator to call in because "if no one says anything we won't know anything is wrong".

...ugh...

I've already called this in and TWC of course had no clue what was happening.

I thought I'd see if anyone here had any thoughts for when the tech arrives tomorrow.

The jacks in our living room (TV, Phone and Internet) are all working fine, it's just the separate jacks in the bedrooms.  We thought they had NO signal at all, until I checked all the channels.  All we get is the TV Guide channel and TBS.

We did notice it looked like someone had been in the attic in our building, so I'm wondering if someone was jagging around with the cables and tried to split off of ours?  I reported it as such in hopes of a faster response...5-8pm tomorrow is the service window.  I wasn't expecting much better on Easter, so I'm not totally upset.

Any thoughts?

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / Set top HD DVR alternatives?
Wednesday Feb 24, 2010, 12:03:54 PM
I tried searching so I apologize if this is a retread of an old topic.  Everything I saw was several years old.

We currently have two DVR's from TW. (They offered me a deal for one year.) We're returing the second box soon as the deal expires.  Over the course of the year we discovered.

  • Most of what we record is network programming.
  • Of what is on cable, 9/10 of it is not HD so we can take care of that with our DVD recorder.
  • However...we occasionally run into having to record 3 HD shows at once.

I would like to have a second DVR that isn't being rented from TW, and doesn't have fees like Tivo.  I've looked around and the only things I've seen are the DTVPal DVR (which looks to be discontinued or ridiculously priced by Sears), and that's only ATSC, which would work but I'd like QAM if possible.

I also saw older single tuner DVR's like the Sony DHG-HDD250/500.  Again, the only ones I found were on eBay for over $300.  For that kind of money, I'd like some kind of warranty.

So...keeping in mind that I'm looking for something that my wife/kids can use easily, what other options are there...if any.  (HTPC is out as most I've seen would be too complicated/buggy for the family to deal with.)

Thanks in advance.

My wife called me at work today to tell me one of our DVR's keeps rebooting.  I had her pull the plug, wait a while, and plug it in.  Same thing.  It boots...clicks, then starts to boot again.

We've got it unplugged for now, and I'm going to play with it when I get home. I'm hoping to get it back long enough to watch the shows we have on there so we can have a tech come and replace it.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Dual DVR Boxes...
Wednesday Nov 26, 2008, 01:59:24 PM
So TWC calls me out of the blue, and is offering me a 2nd HD DVR box for free for the next three months. I'd like to have it as a 2nd device on my main TV, I've already got an upstream/downstream amplifier in place for the split to my TV's coax feed.

My question (that I'm hoping someone here will know).  Am I going to be able to have the remotes set at different frequencies?  Or am I going to have a problem with our remotes changing the channel on both boxes?

I only have the one HD TV, and we could use the extra capacity, especially when we're going to be on vacation.

Any thoughts?   Maybe just a piece of electrical tape over the 2nd box so we can set it up at "point blank" range when we need it?

They're not coming until next Monday so I've got time to think. :)
