On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / Treating well water due to Iron
Thursday Jul 31, 2014, 11:16:18 PM
We just had a well drilled, and now we need to treat the iron in the water. What do you guys use? Just a water softener? A whole house iron filter?

A guy from Culligan tested our water today, and said we need a whole house iron filter or a new "All-in-one" water softener that also treats the iron in the water. I'm just not sure if he's trying to sell us their expensive equipment.

Thanks.

I had the same problem about 6 years ago. No one wanted to do it, so my son and I did it. Luckily, we didn't need to get on the roof. We have a pergola over our deck with 4 X 4 corner posts. We mounted the antenna on top of a telescopic pole on the side of a 4 X 4. I couldn't even get anyone to come to the house to take a look.

Latest News / TWC and Comcast to merge

I got a letter in the mail today stating this. It basically said it should be complete by the end of this year, with more info to come in the future.

What will this mean to TWC customers? I just have high speed internet with EarthLink.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / I need an indoor FM antenna
Thursday Mar 20, 2014, 04:45:50 PM
Quote from: ArgMeMatey;59891The FM band, 88-108 MHz, lies just above (VHF) NTSC channel 6.

When I needed an indoor FM antenna, I just used a 300-ohm twinlead dipole.   Seems to me 1/4 wave is about 30-36 inches.

Here's a primer.  http://hf-antenna.com/003/

If you want to tune your antenna to a particular station, a good place to start is knowing the wavelength:

Thanks for the info.

Nashville? I want to pick up the Milwaukee stations. Sometimes they come in fine, and other times not. I don't know where the stations are.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / I need an indoor FM antenna

I need an indoor FM antenna for my receiver. Something not too large, so it is hidden behind my TV.

How do I know if I need a powered one?

Is there a website that will help me decide this?

I read that VHF rabbit ears work well for FM. Is that true?

Thanks.
