The digital transition only applies to over the air, basically so the government can sell the spectrum that is freed up by dropping ota analog transmissions, to cell phone companies.  Since the analog sent out by TWC is carried by a cable they can do whatever they want.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / TWC WMLW - Marquette

WLMW always looks like crap for sports, last year the brewers games that were carried on it were awful compared even to the fsn standerd def broadcasts.  Good thing they're all supposed to be in HD this year.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Any TWC STBs with HDMI?
Friday Jan 09, 2009, 09:32:17 PM
I use the SA 4250HDC with hdmi with no problems, when I first got the box it had problems staying in 720 or 1080 but that has been fixed with a software update.

You could, but as far as I know there are no onboard graphics that output hdmi, mainly only higher end graphics cards and then I don't think they send the sound with them but i'm not sure.  Anyway if you do need a graphics card with hdmi the size of the card would make the computer quite a bit bigger than a dvr box.

I simply have a DVI to HDMI cable and then have mini stereo to rca cable to run the sound over, with hulu if the show your watching is available in 480p then it looks pretty decent.  The cables can be had very cheaply from monoprice.com

I third monoprice.com their prices can't be beat and the quality is just as good, I don't think I'll ever buy a cable from someone else.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Error Message from 8300HDC

It is the HDCP getting in the way, the digital content protection that is associated with hdmi, you have to just unplug the hdmi cable from the tv if you want to use the vcr.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Weather woes
Monday Jun 09, 2008, 06:29:37 PM
I've had no TWC or RR on the eastside since I got home Sat. night.  Called TWC on Sunday and they said my node probably got struck by lightning and they'll get to it when they get to it but set up a trouble call for Wed. and gave me a whopping $14 credit.  I'm pretty disapointed that it still isn't up 48hrs later, not quite sure why I need a tech to come to my apt when it's the node that's down, and can't wait for U-verse to become available maybe they actually care about their customers.
