Cool...hadn't checked in a while and saw they were finally bonding 8 channels (30/5 tier on a 5341J)

Finally got these suckers.  I ordered 2 for my parents on 8/5...that order was for some reason held up and was never shipped.  I went to the Southridge store today with my dad.  The service rep acknowledged the existing order - said my dad was already being charged the .99/box for the boxes that never shipped.  twc dude cancelled that order and set us up under the free box promotion and gave us 2 new boxes.

So if you're being charged for the boxes, I'd be on the phone raising a fuss.

On/Off Topic Chit-Chat / DOCSIS 3 modems in MKE market

Quote from: ArgMeMatey;59620Did you note what factory firmware the 5341J came with, and whether that changed after you plugged in to Time Warner?  When you get a chance can you please post the current firmware version?

I didn't note what the firmware was before now, but it shows 5.5.4.9J now.  I'm guessing that's what it shipped with because that firmware has been around since last summer.

I see most everyone here bought the 6141...I decided to try the 5341J.  No issues so far.

What is everyone seeing for # of bonded downstream channels?  I've got standard 15/1 (or 16/1.2 ... whatever it is now).   I'm only seeing 4  channels down, 1 channel up - is that normal for 15/1 in the milwaukee market?  If I were to upgrade to one of the wideband tiers, would I see the full 8x4?

I guess I'll have to get my parents a couple of these - which model did you get? The Cisco version?  Are these capable of tuning the local HDs above 1000 (e.g. WTMJ is 1004 instead of 4.1)?

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / TWC Cable Card
Friday Aug 02, 2013, 04:46:39 PM
Analog service begins on 3 (TBS) and ends on 66 (FoodNetwork).  I'm pretty sure there's nothing on 2 - used to be TVGuide channel.

I cancelled my video sevice in May, not because of any issues with my cablecard service, just because the tv season was over and I lost interest in watching the Brewers.  We'll see what fall brings.

Congrats! - Just don't expect to get 17 years out of a LCD/LED tv - it's probably a 50/50 shot it'll last more than 5 years.  Hope you bought a warranty.  My Dad's  Toshiba TV conked out just a few months shy of his Best Buy 4 YR warranty running out.

Snard - I can't help you much with general usabilty for driving the main TV in the house.  The HTPC is still in 'experiment' phase and I don't have it hooked up to my TV (plus I don't have a WMC remote yet).  I watch all recorded content sitting at the computer in a second bedroom - all recording done with Windows Media Center on windows 7.  I experimented with windows 8 but I had some issues getting it to wake from sleep 100% reliably so I went back to windows 7.  My main (and only tv) is hooked up to a Samsung smt-h3050 from TW - I haven't decided if I'm going to give the box back yet.  I still occasionally use the free on-demand stuff.

My experience with TWC and my HDHR Prime has been nearly flawless.  The only negative is you can't pop into the area TW stores and pick up a cable card and tuning adapter.  You have to order online and wait - in my case I waited over 2 weeks to get them.  I got the card activated on Dec 26th - I've recorded 50-75 shows/movies in the interim just to torture test the setup and I haven't had a recording failure yet.

I wasn't quite as lucky with the original Prime - I bought it refurbished off Woot in early November.  When I got it, I tested it recording off clear QAM as I hadn't received the cable card yet.  One of the 3 tuners would not record - I sent it back to Silicon Dust for replacement and to my surprise they seemed to replace it with a new unit (the box wasn't marked refurb as the original was).  I'd definately buy another Prime if I needed more tuners - I'm done with Woot though.
