Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / TWC Audio Isues
Tuesday Aug 23, 2011, 01:02:28 PM
Quote from: Jack 1000;57754What happens when you just hook up the DVR to the TV and leave the receiver out of the picture?  If that works OK, than it might be an issue with the receiver and the DVR.

If that doesn't work, check audio settings on the DVR and receiver to see if anything was accidentally changed.  TWC sometimes pushes software updates without warning, so a setting on the DVR/reviver might have been changed.

If that doesn't work, I would turn off the TV, DVR, and receiver and than unplug each one for about five minutes.  After plugging in each one, power up each one.  Wait for the box to boot up and for the time to display on the box for 30 seconds, before turning the TV back on.  Now see if that solves the problem.  I will refer this issue to my cable engineering contact if it does not and see what he says.

Jack

OK,

I have not tried the sound on the TV itself to see if that's effected.

The first thing I did was check the audio settings on the DVR. Those were unchanged.

Changing the A/V receiver to 2 channel output works fine. DD not so much.

I have not done a cold boot on the DVR or receiver yet. I'll have to try that after work tonight.

I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks Jack.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / NFL negotiating with TWC??
Tuesday Aug 23, 2011, 08:02:27 AM
Quote from: budda;57750I would say Game show thugs but that sounds gay. If you don't care about the topic why are you in it. Do you work for RR?

I'm not sure I understand the Game show thug reference.

It's not that I don't care about the topic far from it. Just the opposite.

I want the NFL channel. If that makes me a hairy backed knuckle dragger  so be it.

I'm fed up with both sides. It seems both sides are completely entrenched in their stance and don't appear to have the willingness to budge.

Arguing the merits of each position on a local forum is not going to move each side towards an agreement.

I have told TWC and the NFL my feelings and my dissatisfaction with each side in this.

Each side may or may not have valid arguments, I understand the issues but, gee whiz it's been 5 years and they still cannot come to an agreement?

Meanwhile the sports consumer is left out in the cold.

BTW, I don't work for TWC or any telecommunication or media interest. Pretty far from it.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / NFL negotiating with TWC??

Well that's fine for you but the channels you want I couldn't care less about.

Nancy Pelosi in HD?

Whatever your feelings about the NFL are, it cannot be denied that the property is valuable,  carping about how they conduct business is not going to change the fact that millions of fans around the country want the channel, as well as the thousands currently being under served by TWC.

Personally, I'd pay the extra to have it. Instead I'm may be offered Charles Nelson Reilly, and/or another tear jerker channel.

Circumstances dictated my leaving D*, not choice. It was clearly a major downgrade in terms of services offered IMHO.

Not having the NFL network in my opinion is one of several reasons I won't recommend TWC over Sat.

Just get it done for cryin out loud.

Milwaukee HDTV Equipment / TWC Audio Isues

I've had an issue crop up and need some help.

I moved my 8300 HDC DVR to a different room.

I hooked it up and fired up my A/V receiver and the DD audio is breaking up.

The original STB in this location was hooked directly to the receiver via coaxial audio and HDMI to the TV with no problems.

This was a straight swap. No changes in settings on the receivers or STB's.

In it's previous location, the DVR was hooked up to an A/V receiver via coaxial and Component video with no issues.

I tried an optical connection no change. Removed the HDMI connection and went with component. No change.

I tried running the audio through the TV from the STB and then to the receiver. Same problem.

In order to verify any issues with the receiver, I get clear DD audio on the receiver from the TV OTA and DVD player.

Only issue is the DVR.

The receiver having the issue is an older Sony STR-DE597 and it was fine until the swap.

Suggestions?

Thanks Jack,

I'll look into it later tonight.

I'm really getting tired of seeing this message lately. (See Attached)

Changing the channel up or down and then back works, but according to TWC there's nothing wrong. The "A" button does nothing.

Non DVR Cisco box HDMI hook up. Handshake issue?

When I switched, the only trial period I got from TWC was the number of days before the first bill arrived.

Tom, For projects like that I gave up trying to use something "newer".

They just don't have what it takes, like independent speaker outputs, phono stages, Ability to hook up a simple 7 or 10 band EQ.

Honestly, I've bought what I needed and works from the Goodwill or Rummage sales.

"Old" gear is basic, no fancy surround sound crap to get in the way. For years I ran my garage with an old Allied Stereo receiver until it fell off the shelf one too many times.

Foxeng, I also agree with trev's comments. You put things in perspective and explain it so us "consumers" can understand the issues, the hurdles and hoops you guy's have to navigate to get us our infotainment!

Thanks and keep it up. :award

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Does HD News Matter?
Sunday May 22, 2011, 11:06:16 PM
Back in the mid 60's yes I'm that old too,

I remember watching Super Bowl I in color at the neighbors house because we didn't have a color TV.

The next year the neighbor had died, we had to watch Super Bowl II in B&W at home.

Did I enjoy watching both games ? Yes, was one better than the other because it was in Color? Nope!

Would the Twilight Zone have been better in color?

Are colorized movies better because they were colorized?

Is Channel 4 news better than Channel 12 because 4 is in HD?

To answer all of the questions.... NO!!!

Latest News / TWC Navigator/Box Update

QuoteHe believes that TWC thinks if the guide filtering was permanent that people would never see channels to which they don't subscribe, and TWC doesn't want to do that. They want people to see a show in the guide and order the channel that they don't get to see the show to get more money. Filtering by Subscribed Channels only, would make unsubscribed channels forgettable to the customer.

IF I wanted those channels I'd order them.

Instead I have to go through 100's of channels while guide surfing and end up missing what I might watch because it took a half hour ((exaggeration please don't write me)) to surf the guide and the show is either over or half over.

Morons.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / WISN 12 News... new set, no HD

Quote from: REVM1M;57296:confused::confused:

What's confusing?

Your point was if it's not HD, it's not worth watching.

If a newspaper article has no pictures it's not worth reading?

If a TV news report shows SD surveillance video of a crime that was committed it's not worth watching?

If/when video of the raid on OBL's compound is released and it's SD and stretched when broadcast, Is it your argument that it's not worth watching?

News is all about content. Period.

I don't care about pretty bubble headed talking heads, super duper HD viper eye in the sky, pretty pictures in the background of the news set or Betty news talkers crows feet.

If I'm watching Planet Earth you're darn right I want it in HD.
