After the recent price hikes with TWC's DVR and the poor excuse of improvements, I've been considering building my own DVR system again.

A few years ago it was pretty well known TWC flagged all programs except the local channels as copy-once, effectively making a multi-room DVR system impossible without the use of Xbox 360 based WMC clients.

I haven't been able to find any updated information to see if that has changed.

My ideal system would be MythTV based with Raspberry-pi based clients, however programs can only be flagged as copy-freely in order for recording via MythTV to function.

Does anyone know if TWC still flags all programs with the copy-once flag or do they now correctly use copy-freely flag?

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / Does TWC want my business?
Thursday Mar 11, 2010, 12:14:54 PM
So here's the situation...    a few years ago we had Digital cable, with an dvr and internet.  We found ourselves watching less and less tv and when we did watch it was mostly OTA channels.  We made the choice to cancel cable TV service and just use OTA.  We kept internet service because we live in an area where cable internet is our only option for broadband.  DSL isn't available.

Recently we made the decision to get cable tv again.  After calling TWC sales department I was quite surprised to learn they do not have any special offers that we would qualify for.  Every offer they have are for new customers only.  Since we kept internet service, we are an existing customer.

We are unable to get uverse or satellite, cable is our only option.

The price quoted for digital cable withOUT a dvr would add an extra $85 to our already $50 a month bill.    Whatever happened to "bundling" for a discount?  When asked they said, that is discounted.  Really?

It seems as though TWC doesn't want us back as a tv subscriber.  At that price we'll be sticking to OTA.

Milwaukee HDTV Programming / What is the problem with WISN?
Monday Sep 15, 2008, 07:15:33 PM
Today, 9/15 between 7:05 and 7:07 durring primetime, it dropped out of HD to scroll a message about DTV converter boxes.

Why?  If you have to scroll the message why can't you do it on the HD feed? Why do you have to drop down to SD to do this?

I can deal with the occasional weather alerts, but if now this is going to happen every time this message is scrolled it will become old very fast.

Has it always been this way with WISN?  I don't watch it very often.

Of course, I didn't even address the entire issue of since we're already watching the HD feed, which is digital, it does nothing more then confuse those who don't understand HD TVs are digital.
