Got that same letter today.   It also announced the demise of around 10 analog channels and noted that they would be digital only after 9/11/13.

The channels affected are WPXE-iTV (Ch15), WVCY (Ch23), WWRS-TBN (CH21), WMLV (Ch7), LMN (Ch65), Golf Channel (Ch28), CNBC (Ch47), EWTN (Ch97) TWC (Ch64) along with Public Educational and Government Access programming.

Loadstar, If they are billing you already, call and point them to this letter, dated 8/9/2013.

Quote from: LoadStar;59603The procedure with the DTAs:
1) Hook up in *all* DTAs on your account and turn them all on.
2) Call into the telephone number that appears on the screen. Choose the option to activate the boxes.
3) The system will send an activation signal to the boxes.

You don't need to provide the MAC address; they'll just send a "hit" to all the boxes associated with the account.

I hooked them up and called the phone number listed in the instructions.  However, no number appeared on my TV screens, only a message saying "Scanning for channels" that never went away on either box.

A tech was dispatched and he had no idea what was happening.  He called someone who seemed to know what needed to be done and both boxes came on-line and then shortly downloaded an upgrade.  All up and running now with much better PQ than before, as I expected.

Quote from: ArgMeMatey;59599I thought the usual MO for these was that you had to hook it up, turn it on, and then call them with the MAC address to get it authorized.   (Presumably this removes the incentive for theft in transit.)

The person at the activation number never asked about a MAC address and said that it should just work out of the box. :huh?:   At any rate, a tech will be here shortly to address whatever is needed. :Smash:

The pair of DTA's I ordered arrived today and neither goes past searching for channels.  I called TW and they are rolling a tech to see what is happening. They do seem to respond quickly to Signature service customer issues. Seems like this should just work out of the box but no dice for me.

Good thing I printed out the receipt showing no one-time or monthly charges.  If they try to charge me for my DTA's I will send them a copy.  :bang:

They are also shown as free via the website ordering.

I think everyone should call TWC and ask for a rebate on their bill until such time as they provide the stations we contracted for.  A little pressure on both sides wouldn't hurt.  No matter who wins this dispute we lose.  If anyone really believes TWC is just looking out for our interests out of the goodness of their hearts is misguided.  They are both in it to take our money, preferably lots of our money.  This is just a game of who blinks first.

If TWC was interested in keeping our bills low, they would provide Ala-carte plans where we could buy what we want and not be forced to buy what we don't want.

If WTMJ was interested in keeping our bills low, they would recognize that their programming is delivered OTA for free to anyone who wants it and therefore the cable distribution fee should not be all that expensive.

IMO, neither company is concerned about us, only for our money.

Milwaukee HDTV Recorders & Players / First service call

Well that didn't take long.  One of the new Cisco boxes started displaying split screens and dropping into the screensaver. Hard to duplicate but it occurred 3-4 times in a couple days. I called TWC SignatureHome support number and a tech was at my home an hour later replacing the box.  He also re-ran the feed to my home from the terminal just to be sure it was not a contributing factor.  Excellent service!

Milwaukee HDTV Recorders & Players / TWC SignatureHome

I had this install done this week and replaced my old 8300HDC STBs with Cisco 8742 HDC STBs.  The Cisco box has 500Gb of HD storage per STB in a much smaller size.  The CISCO box is at least twice as responsive as the aging 8300HDC.  I don't really care for the new control but I guess I will get used to it in time. Picture quality is good and the new STBs seem fine.  I do like the whole house DVR concept.

I always had lightning fast internet service typically over 20Mbps with just the standard internet service.  It is now over 50Mbps.  Not that I can really see much difference but it is what TWC advertised.

Voice is the same except that there is now no separate added charge for the voicemail services.  Need to look over the My TWC app to see if this is useful for me.

Moving to the SignatureHome service reduced my monthly bill by about 10%, over doubled my internet speed and got me faster STB's with much higher storage and ease of use.

The installer was on time and very knowledgable.  He was not in a hurry and answered all my questions. He set up the hardware and tied into my existing Apple Time Capsule/wireless router. He was familiar with the hardware he installed as well as my Apple hardware.

So far I'm liking the switch.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / I'm in deep trouble now
Friday Dec 18, 2009, 03:33:54 PM
TW added a slew of new HD channels and the wife just noticed that QVC is now in HD.  She ran for the credit card after 5 minutes of watching a jewelry show.  LOL

Easy come easy go.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / New HD Channel issues
Sunday Nov 22, 2009, 12:04:00 PM
So this morning I checked the list of things to be recorded and verified that I had the Packer Game scheduled (1106).  It didn't record and there is no indication as to why.  What a POS this box is.

Rebooting made no difference.

I have NASCAR set up and I'll be watching to see if that starts.

Along with this I'm getting a lot of dropouts and stuttering of both audio and video on this HD channel, WITI 1106.

Thank you TW.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / New HD Channel issues
Saturday Nov 21, 2009, 10:54:09 PM
Seeing the same thing on two 8400 HDC boxes.

Recordings are coming up blank.  Channels I set up to record in HD seem to have switched to non-HD channels.  Guess it's time to call them again.  It costs them a lot of money to keep rolling trucks out to swap out hardware when the problem is not in the hardware.  But if that's the way they want to play the game I'll keep calling until they get their act together.

Maybe it's just me and my particular issues but I think their service quality has slipped as of late.

Milwaukee HDTV Technical Issues / Audio issue... Anyone else?
Tuesday Sep 15, 2009, 06:21:31 PM
My TWC service consists of an SA 8300HDC with an optical hook up to my Denon receiver and surround sound system.

My receiver switches to Dolby Digital on all the HD channels just fine.  When a non-dolby digital signal is present the receiver automatically switches back to ProLogic II.

All except for these 8 channels.

FXNHD (522)
MHD (523)
VSHD (525)
FXHD (535)
HLMHD (545)
NGCHD (549)
SPDHD (580)
MLBHD (583)

These channels switch my receiver into Dolby Digital and the audio track is just splinters of audio.  The picture on these channels is fine but the audio is just bits of the stream.

I just had them out again and their tech said they don't support dolby digital.  WTF

I asked the tech if he thought I was the only TWC customer with a large flatpanel display and surround system and he said no.  I asked him if others have complained about this same issue and he said yes.  The tech was instructed to disable dolby digital to correct this problem by his supervisor.  Nice.

I wonder if anyone else has found a solution to this joke.

I really don't care for TWC's non-solution much.

If you were paying the network for this broadcast you might want to reconsider your investment as I stopped watching.  The PQ was reminiscent of 1960's TV quality.  If this is what the Packer games will look like in the future, I certainly won't be watching.

I have several thousand dollars invested in Hi-Def gear and I didn't spend this money to watch crappy quality programming.

You would think the network would be embarrassed to broadcast such poor quality.
