Have fun digging your own grave, Time Warner.

QuoteIn an important move, the cable company has dropped its stance that the NFL Network be placed on a separate, extra fee, sports tier, one source familiar with the talks said.

Now, TWC is ready to put the eight-year old network on a basic, digital tier that will cost sports fans no more than they are currently paying -- which is $78.99 a month in Manhattan for customers who get only TV service from TWC.

$79 a month for TV service. This is before taxes and receivers are piled on and the bill shoots up over $100 a month. Instead of standing their ground they're giving in and continuing to dig their own grave. The multichannel video business model is going to die unless prices do not decrease significantly, and I mean now. Giving into the NFL Network and adding another dollar to everyone's bill isn't helping. "Cord cutting" is a real phenomenon and it is only going to get worse as the old people die off and more Americans are pushed into poverty by a government that gets more corrupt every day.

I believe that the cost for Expanded Basic in New York, which is the division where that information was taken from runs about $56.  The Digital Variety tier is about $10 more, which gives you over 200 channels, so it's not quite as bad as quoted.

I still think the cable TV service is the weakest link in the TWC Triple Play Package.  This is due to a slow outdated guide and cable boxes, with TWC showing little to no incentive to improve them with modern.

In contrast, Road Runner, Digital Phone, and the I-Pad applications are doing great.  I think it is the economy cited as reason for the cut-backs, but also believe that more and more people with jobs, school, and family responsibilities, don't see the need for watching TV as much as in the past.

The move is toward a mobile environment, which I have not been overly pleased, because I don't like looking at a little laptop screen.

I tried TWC for 3 months and right before NFL season and right after AMC HD was added switched back to DirecTV.
The reson is simple, TWC receivers are not good, lots of sports channels missing, like NFL network, UEFA channels, much less premiums in HD.
To pass commercials is just painful, there is no 30 sec skip option. It takes 5-10 clicks and several sec on DirecTV, and on TWC the process is so slow.
And the the PQ. I am not sying TWC is bad, but it is kind of washed out a little bit compare to DirecTV.
And then screboard on sports channels is another great thing on DirecTV to lookup score right away.
Cancellation was easy - I'll give TWC that.
I still have and like RR on TWC.

This further reveals what dicks the NFL Network are being. So all these years later they're still trying to force the channel down the throats of every single cable subscriber at their inflated price as one of the most expensive cable networks.

And they are continuing to give DirecTV a sweetheart deal, refusing the requests of any other carrier who wants the "Sunday Ticket" content. Why would any provider want to negotiate with this network that continues to show favoritism towards their competition?

I also see the average cost of the network has inflated from 60 cents to 75 cents and now it's apparently 81 cents per subscriber. Almost $10 a year everyone will get charged whether they want the channel or not. It might not seem like a lot, but imagine if all the hundreds of channels tried to pull this crap? Cable is already prohibitively expensive because the providers have caved to these constant rate hikes far too much.

I hope Time Warner continues to tell them to shove it.

The price is too high for what you get in regards to NFL Network.  I got a notice in my billing statement that some services would be going up about $1.00 to 1.50 soon.  Those on Discount Packages, Price Locks, or Promotions won't be affected....yet.

Do we need even MORE rate increases for an 8-live games a year football channel?

I understand that Charter, Comcast, and Cablevision, now all have the NFL Network.  IF and I stress the word IF, TWC does acquire it this year, (they are now the only cable provider without the channel.) assuming Red Zone will be part of the deal, how much approximately would rates increase for TWC subs?

Personally, I am not interested in the channel, but I don't know if it is a good or bad business model for TWC to be holding out?  How much are they keeping rates down by not carrying the channel?  I wonder if they will hold out again this year, or come to an agreement, and where the channel will be placed?  Red Zone I am sure will be on the optional Sports Pass.  NFL Network could be on Sports Pass too, where TWC wants it, but the NFL wants it minimally on the Digital Variety Tier, which is the main digital cable tier.  The NFL original requested a Standard Service placement, but is open to the Digital Variety Tier.  Thoughts?
