Not exactly sure when it happened, but I was browsing through channels this morning and noticed that the NFL Network is now available on Charter. HD channel 669, SD channel 315.

Also, there is a free preview of NFL Red Zone. HD 670, SD 316.

Red Zone won't have a preview, you get it with the Network.  Red Zone is only active on Regular Season gameday though.

The channel says "Tune in Sunday September 11 for a free preview of NFL Red Zone." You have to subscribe to the Sports View in order to get it the rest of the season. It might be the same thing with NFL Network but I'm not sure.

That almost sounds like it is on a sports tier.  If you get the NFL network, red zone is included.

That makes no sense because the NFL has been unwilling to negotiate that with TWC.  TWC has been offering to place it on a sports tier but the NFL is insisting it be placed on basic cable.  The only thing I can think of is that Charter is only the 5th largest cable provider VS TWC of 2nd.

I'm just so sick of these politics all boiling down to money, then again doesn't money control everything?

It is sickening, but that's the world we live in now.

I'll have to keep my eye open to see if I still get the NFL Network the rest of the season since I don't subscribe to the sports view.

NFL Network itself is part of Digital Plus, so if you take the extended digital package with DIY, TCM, and the music video channels, etc, you also get NFL Network.

RedZone is SportsView only, so if you get Fox Soccer, the FSN digital channels and ESPNews, etc, then you get RedZone, but if you don't have that, you don't. I've had SportsView for years and after checking out RedZone today, I'd say it's $10/month well spent finally (nobody is getting that package for MavTV or World Fishing Network, for instance).

Charter subs,

How much of a rate increase did you notice on your bill with NFL Network added, and Red Zone? (If you subscribed to those service levels?)  TWC is still in negotiations about price and package placement.

Jack, glad to hear that the negotiations are still going on.  But that makes me even more ****ed at the NFL, the way they have agreed to a sports tier but are forcing TWC to carry it basic.  I don't get that, but like mentioned it must be that Charter isn't as big.

Ok sorry for beating a dead horse.  Just a big football fan that would love to see the Thursday games.

I heard that TWC/Charter COULD be dealing on putting NFL Network on Digital Standard, which about 90% of subs take.  NFL Red Zone would go on Optional Sports Pass.

I'm under a 24 month contract until October 2012, but it seems like they planned for NFL Network and new other sports networks early; the digital sports tier was previously $5/month, but it went up to $10/month in April. That's also when we got a gusher of HD networks (including Speed and ESPNews in HD), so it seems like some of that $5 in the increase is just at this point pure profit for now for Charter. So there's probably $1-1.50/month combined in there going for the NFL channels.

I think TWC has some of Charters' Sports Tier on Digital Standard.  I think we are at $4.95 or $5.95 a month for Sports Pass.  $1.00-$1.50 sounds about right for the cost of NFL Network.  Grandfathered contracts might come in between 75 cents to $1.00.
