Quote from: Tivoman44;57733Anyone hear about this, I found this article by googling for some information:

http://www.adweek.com/news/television/nfl-network-carriage-talks-time-warner-cable-133867

Unfortunately, that link is old news and there have been no updates on talks since that article.  We probably won't hear anything until at least the end of the month, if they come to a pre-season agreement, or maybe extended to the end of September if a season agreement is reached.

75 cents per subscriber is absolutely nuts.  Can you imagine how much cable would cost if everyone wanted 75 cents/sub?  [extended comments with questionable language edited out]

It is not even a sports tier. NFL wants the NFL network on the most basic package so EVERY sub pays the 75 cents period. I have Dish so I don't care.

75 cents is nuts per subscriber, especially being on basic cable VS a sports tier.  I'd be fine if it was on a sports tier like MLB, NHL and NBA network is, but we shall see.

The link may be old news but the point is if the negotiation is still on.  Correct me if I am wrong but this is the first time they have been in talks since 06 or 07.  I hope they get an agreement.

As for having Dish, I wish I could, but am not allowed to have a dish at my place.  And from what I have heard, TWC is far better than Uverse.

If they want to be on a standard tier, they should do what the MLB Network did and provide the cable companies an ownership share and profit sharing. Otherwise, it's insane for a network that is only of interest to football fans, and really only for about 5 months of the year at the most. Put it on a sports tier and I'll be OK with it.

Sup Loadstar?

In fact, it may not even be five months.  I don't know when live pre-season coverage begins, but NFL Networks' regular game schedule goes from about the second week of November to the end of December.  That's 2.5 months with only 8 games.  75 cents a month asked per sub even AFTER Football season is over.  That's the problem.

I heard that Comcast and Charter got the service for about 45-50 cents per month and 15- 25 cents per month for Red Zone.  If a deal is reached with TWC Cable for NFL Network. expect a monthly rate along those lines.

I think it should be about 35 cents per sub for NFL Network, and 15 cents for Red Zone.  Carriage placement with probably be NFL Network on the Digital Variety Package for TWC, and on the optional Sports Pass for Red Zone.  Fees for NFL Network on the bill, with TWC needing to profit, will probably be about 80 cents to $1.00 more per subscriber.

The Sports Pass Package to accommodate the fees for Red Zone, will likely go up between  50 cents to $1.00.

Better value would be possible, if the NFL Network extended its coverage to 16 live games instead of 8.  Still a lot of money for another Football channel.

I think it should be zero.  Paying for content is what the advertising is for.

Well, I for one thank the obnoxious football thugs for giving me the contact information of various Time Warner executives and encouraging me to contact them. I used this information to request NASA TV HD, Sprout HD and the expansion of the C-SPANs in HD, Game Show Network HD and Oprah Winfrey Network HD to more markets, including Milwaukee.

I also told them I am very pleased that they are not negotiating with the NFL Network until they quit trying to force themselves onto my package when I do not want them. I suggest everyone else who is glad Time Warner is sticking up for us by not allowing the football fans to bully all of us into subsidizing their expensive channel do the same. We could have 30 Game Show Networks for the price of one NFL Network and the C-SPANs and NASA TV HD are free to carry. The most outrageous thing is that the NFL Network still has commercials too. It is one of the top 5 most expensive cable channels, more expensive than HDNet and HDNet Movies which do not have commercials, and they still have the nerve to flood it with advertising. You can read all about the NFL Network's long history of greed and bullying right here. Just about every provider has been ticked off with them at some point.

If you guys would like to join me in my quest to get some of these channels added to the Milwaukee system you can also contact the local Milwaukee HQ here:

OWN HD, Game Show Network HD, and the 3 C-SPANs in HD are already available on Time Warner's systems in New York City and in Ohio so it would be a piece of cake for them to roll them out here. They've already got carriage agreements in place, now they need subscribers to request them. I don't see why Ohio and NYC should be so special as to get exclusive channels that we don't.

Talos4

Well that's fine for you but the channels you want I couldn't care less about.

Nancy Pelosi in HD?

Whatever your feelings about the NFL are, it cannot be denied that the property is valuable,  carping about how they conduct business is not going to change the fact that millions of fans around the country want the channel, as well as the thousands currently being under served by TWC.

Personally, I'd pay the extra to have it. Instead I'm may be offered Charles Nelson Reilly, and/or another tear jerker channel.

Circumstances dictated my leaving D*, not choice. It was clearly a major downgrade in terms of services offered IMHO.

Not having the NFL network in my opinion is one of several reasons I won't recommend TWC over Sat.

Just get it done for cryin out loud.

I would say Game show thugs but that sounds gay. If you don't care about the topic why are you in it. Do you work for RR?

I'm not sure I understand the Game show thug reference.

It's not that I don't care about the topic far from it. Just the opposite.

I want the NFL channel. If that makes me a hairy backed knuckle dragger  so be it.

I'm fed up with both sides. It seems both sides are completely entrenched in their stance and don't appear to have the willingness to budge.

Arguing the merits of each position on a local forum is not going to move each side towards an agreement.

I have told TWC and the NFL my feelings and my dissatisfaction with each side in this.

Each side may or may not have valid arguments, I understand the issues but, gee whiz it's been 5 years and they still cannot come to an agreement?

Meanwhile the sports consumer is left out in the cold.

BTW, I don't work for TWC or any telecommunication or media interest. Pretty far from it.

The season will be starting in about 1.5 hours.  The articles stated they were hopeful for an agreement by the start of the season.  I tried googling and found they are still in talks, another said the negotiations have ended.  Anyone have any updates?
