Does anyone know how to get to the diagnostics screens on the SA8300HDC.  I thought I had some instructions saved for that somewhere, but the only ones I could find, didn't work.

Thanks

See if this works:  (From The AVS Forums)

Press and hold select on your remote. When the mail icon flashes, press the down button. the front of the box will say DIAG and you will have a 9 page diagnostic scree showing. navigate with your pg+ and pg- keys.

Update (by Me.)

The newer builds have about 14 pages of data.  This data is the preparation for multi-room DVR functionality.  Multi-room requires new DVR's and a truck roll, because a filter-trap has to be installed on the line.

Thanks for the info, that did the trick. It had a lot of info but unfortunately not the info I was looking for.  I've been having some issues with my signal and my cable modem lists the downstream power at -16 and was trying to see if the cable boxes also measured that as well.

I've been waiting for multi room DVR for awhile.  Do you know when that might be implemented and what DVR boxes it requires? We have 2 8300HDC that I want to trade for the Samsung ones as have had lots of issues with SA ones.

TWC at the corporate level will be using a choice of 3 different DVR's at least from what I have heard: The newest Cisco model, the newest Samsung model, and I think Moterolla.  All of them will have a 500GB hard drive for tons of storage, which is cool.

However, from what I have gathered, TWC seems to have gotten the best deal in working with Cisco.  Cisco's newest box that supports multi-room when our division gets it is the Cisco 8642 DVR, so that's what I would look for.

Note that just because there are three different model DVR's that will take multi-room, does NOT necessarily mean that our division will take all three.  Milwaukee areas say they have had trouble with the Samsungs, (although they have the fastest guide Navigation-go figure.)

We still need faster program guides and better trustworthiness from the Navigator software before the transition to multi-room. (For the C-boxes)  The latest build for the C/Samsung boxes came out in Mid-October.  I would not expect another software update until the end of first quarter 2011.  Maybe some new features at that time for the guide too, but my first wish is better speed.

It's possible that employees may be testing multi-room DVR now, but don't quote me on that.

For that issue,

I would call TWC, and ask for Tier 3 Road Runner Technical support.  Just say, "I need to speak to a tech 3 supervisor for an unresolved Road Runner problem."  Let the supervisor know about your modem issues.  He might be able to look at your signal levels without the need for a service call.  The level 3 techs are very good.

Well after enough complaining I got a temporary fix, they had a "top tech" come out and he checked all the outlets in the house as well as one of the taps. He ended up replacing the 10db amp for a 15db one in the basement as well as scheduling another network performance call. He ended up finding some bad (buried) cable and ran the "temporary fix" patch cable on top of the grass (probably buried in snow now).    Now my downstream is coming back at -1db, quite a bit better than the low spot of -21 when this all went crashing.

While the tech was here he talked about the new whole house DVR package coming (soon) with the higher speed 50GB internet speed, etc..

Sounds good!

So what still has to be done on this next call to make the fix work, hopefully for good?

It's only a temporary fix because normal technicians are not certified in excavation, which would be required to bury the cable. They'll have to bring out a construction crew and run a new feed between the road and premises.

Instead of rg6 ask for rg11 to the house. will help with any signal loss. And is used by RR for long runs. FYI

Bigdog

Actually that was one of the suggestions from the first service call to run RG11 to the house. As it stands now they ran a temp cable (buried in snow now) connecting the ped on the corner to the ped in the field that feeds then house. That seemed to have fixed the signal level. I still get the weird color flashes on the DVR but attributing that to funky boxes and want to exchange the 8300HDCs for possibly Samsungs??

I'm not sure what they are going to do in the spring to permanently fix this problem

TW will send a contractor out to bury the cable when the ground is no longer frozen.  FWIW, I was under-impressed with the guy and young girl that buried mine.  For starters, they didn't leave any slack where the cable goes into the house!  Also, it wasn't buried very deep.  Oh well!

Ditto, they (re)buried a cable fix last spring which led tho this whole fiasco. The ped in the field was mounted too low and suffered from water issues so they sent a guy to install a taller one but the cover never did go all the way to the ground so critters chewed up that cable causing us to be w/o any services for a couple of days. Hopefully when everything thaws out again they can do a proper fix for that as well as the junk cable that is underground running between the 2 peds.
